I think my local Honda dealer is nutts. I call them up tell them. I have a 1986 Honda V45 Magna had to explain to them what it was. lol Then I said I need an oil change and my coolant swapped out. He said sorry we dont work on bikes over 10 years old. So i tell him its in perfect shape always garage kept 20,000 miles. Then he says ok we will do it. Then says well I cant find any info on that year or model of bike in our system. Then says but we will be hapy to do it the total will be $200 plus tax. I said for a oil change and a coolant drain and fill you must be crazy and I hung up my phone. I normally would do this myself but I figured i dont feel like laying on the ground at this time and I could see paying $100 maybe $150 but over $200 with tax Holy shit!!

    Hey all,

So I bought this speedo on eBay because a few people on here said they bought one similar and was able to hook it up. But just glancing at it, everything on it is electronic. There is no place for the speedo cable or anything like that. So can anyone give me a hint as to what I need to do or buy? It also comes with a wiring diagram for everything and I can post that if needs be. Thank you

    • I just bought the same one, haven't tackled it yet, it looks fairly simple to hook up. The only thing I haven't figured is how to mount it. What type of mount do you plan to use.

    • I plan on just making my own. Welding one together. Haven't got a good second to check it out really because I got it this morning and I've been working. But tomorrow I'm going to check it out better. It looks like I may just use the magnet speedo cable. I'm probably gonna run it where the old speedo cable was

    • That's what I am saying, Honda needs to update the X series bikes. They are very popular yet they act like they don't care about them. It's 2017 and they are still building carbs on the things

    • Just unscrew and watch out for a spring, small flat washer and an o ring in the hole or still on the part you just took out.

    • I heated up a butt connector and stuck it on there to remove mine. It was very easy all I had to do was rotate the carb. Boom.

    • I heard of someone else doing that but because my jet kit came with the tool I forgot about it. Smart.

04 crf250r I am in need of some suspension setup help. I m new to bikes — HONDA CRF Dirt Bikes ONLY

04 crf250r I am in need of some suspension setup help. I'm new to bikes. I'm 150 pounds with all gear on. I ride on a loose dirt track. Gets rough at end of day. Having problems with the rear wanting to kick me over the handle bars. Because of this broken collar bone and 3 ribs has happened. Went over jump kicked me over. I'm looking for help on how to cure this problem. My clicker is 2 past neutral. Do I need to adjust rebound or........ all help is appreciated thank u!! Again I am new to bikes so I might ask questions lol!

    • I needed a heavier spring, my buddy had an 09 250r spring which I think is a 5.2. took us about an hour.

    • Cool yea YouTube is a great tool lol now as far as rebuilding it (internal) what's best route to go? I talked to the original owner and neither front or rear have been rebuilt ever. Would it be best to do a whole rebuild on it? Also was told to change front springs to.

    • I payed a local guy that used to own a shop and would set up at tracks on the weekends. When the number of racers dropped a few years back he closed down but still does side work. I had him install a Racetech gold valve kit ( awesome investment). If you are very mechanically inclined and don't mind buying all the tools and extra seals if you screw up go for it yourself. I didn't have time to mess with it. I took them to another shop to begin with and after 2 shot they still couldn't get it right. The guy said I had some rod loose in one fork. As far as the rear you have to be able to deal with the high pressure nitrogen charge on the reservoir. I wouldn't touch that.

2005 Honda CRF250X,Plated — HONDA CRF Dirt Bikes ONLY

Up for sale (no trades) is Veteran owned a 2005 Honda CRF250X that has a clear title and is tagged for street use.

Only 10 hours (+ or - 30 minutes) run time since complete professional servicing (fluids, filters, etc),new brakes,chain/sprockets,and rear tire. Engine was completely rebuilt (top and bottom end) from the crankshaft up with 34-36 hours run time since . Hours/miles will go up as I ride it (including to work some as well). Bike's previous owner is a professional bike mechanic, who was able just thi sweek to find the receipts for the complete rebuild I mentioned.

Runs strong (would easily outrun the stock 2008 CRF250X that I used to own),and is dependable. Price is pretty firm (it's less than what I have in it),so please don't waste our time with low-ball offers, though I would accept an offer that's pretty close. I'm not in any kind of bind/desperate for cash, and don't need help selling it. I'm thinking about saving to pay cash for a brand new bike,so if it doesn't bring close to what I'm asking,I'll just keep and ride it. Thanks for looking, and have a great day :)

    Update 06/04/17:

    SOLD: 2013 Honda MSX.

Unfortunately the time has come to part with my MSX. It's been amazing fun to own and ride, but due to a longer daily commute, I need to get something a bit bigger.

I’ve met a fantastic group of people because of this great little bike, so it’s with regret that I need to sell her.

I've owned my MSX since first registration in October 2013 and have carried out all servicing myself.

Although the mileage is a little high (32K miles), It has always been regularly serviced, filled with the best quality fully synthetic engine oil, with oil & filter changes at least every 1000 miles. MOT is until end of October 2017.

The weak point of the MSX (the crank) was replaced in June 2016 with a stronger/upgraded Finbro item and a Takegawa 143cc kit was installed at the same time. Approximately 6000 miles have been covered since the engine rebuild. She runs beautifully now.

I really hope somebody can give her a good home. She’ll reward you with many years of fun and laughs. I would much prefer her to go to one of the members here than part exchanging it at my local Honda dealership.

The list of modifications are as follows:

Takegawa 143cc kit (still registered as 125cc).

    Takegawa cam.

Port matched and gas flowed cylinder head.

    Finbro upgraded crank.

Heavy duty cam chain tensioner button, new tensioner rollers and engine seals (installed in 2016 with crank rebuild and 143 kit install).

    Takegawa oil pump.

Kitaco clutch case (with added oil filter and spinner delete).

    Uprated clutch springs.

    Magnetic drain plug.

    DNA air filter.

M4 Exhaust with wideband boss installed (complete with DB killer).

    PowerCommander V (PCV).

    PowerCommander Wideband 2 (WB2).

    Takegawa generator plugs.

Renthal super low down sportsbike bars.

    CNC levers.

    Custom 7” round 60W H4 headlight conversion.

    LED smoked flush mount indicators.

    Integrated smoked LED tail light.

    Modified ComposiMo licence plate mount.

    Pyramid Plastics fender extender (front)

    Modified horn mount.

    Recently installed components:

    • On my '95 VT1100C me and a friend were chasing down some kids on 600cc sport bikes up in the NM mountains and mine really started dancing up and down. It's weird, when your are cornering hard and shifting a lot, due to the bike reacting the opposite of what you are thinking it will do. Hard throttle and bike lifts, off the throttle and it squats. Granted, we were pushing the envelope for any cruiser ;-)

    • Don't really think tbh, that unless you wanna 'race' or drive very sporty that the reduces hp will be of much importance. I mostly wanna cruise smoothly, no need to rush things tbh :P have heard of enough bike accidents

    • You really should get a shaft drive then. Best for just cruising.

Sorry for the terrible video bought this off a buddy of mine two weeks ago — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Sorry for the terrible video, bought this off a buddy of mine two weeks ago(never even rode a bike before) finally got it started today, had to take the carb off(utter pain in the ass) and threw it back on and after 2 hours of troubleshooting finally got it to start and die a few times, this was the second time it actually idled, so adjusted and took it for a spin, and of course killed it, brought it back to the car jumped it again, and went to take off this time killed it instantly, I assumed the battery had some juice and went to start it and heard like a puff, I want to say near my right leg but that could've been a misfire, and zero juice from the starter, headlights and tail light worked though, so I don't think it's the battery, I'm assuming it's the fuse. Side note(don't know if its even relevant) used to I could put it in neutral and push it fine, now it seems to click into gear when it should be in neutral(while turned off)

Keep in mind, I work on VW bugs never motorcycles, so don't hate too much :P

    • Hopefully it's some as small as that. also be careful with jumping from a car it can blow the starter solenoid and there not cheap

    • You can jump from a car, just make sure the car isnt running!

    • Could it still be the battery if the lights and horn still work?

Can someone help with an issue my buddy is having with his bike — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Can someone help with an issue my buddy is having with his bike?

    2002 Honda Shadow 1100 Spirit.

How are the ignition wires ran? Does the left coil run both left plugs or does it run the rear cylinder? We are chasing down an issue with it missing and bogging (already had carbs rebuilt completely). The diagrams that show the ignition system aren't clear whether the left coil goes to the left side and the right coil goes to the right side, or if the left goes to the rear cyl and the right goes to the front cyl.

It's a used bike and we are trying to see if someone put it together wrong previously. It needs a new coil and wire to begin with because one of the coils had a corroded pin that was shorting out one wire.

Before we took everything apart, the bike ran with the right side wires hooked up and left side off, but would not run with the left side on and right side unplugged.

    Thanks.

    • Yes. So only 1 plug on each cylinder was firing at the correct time and once RPM picked up to 2,000+ the other plug firing at the wrong time was causing issues.

    • You'll need to pull the tank for sure and take the plastic wire holder box off too. The coil on the left should have both wires running to the rear cylinder. The coil on the right should have wires running to the front cylinder. This would only be an issue if your bike has been worked on by someone before you. Chances are this bike was taken apart by a previous owner that wasn't paying attention.

    • OK so left is rear, right is front. Cool. Thanks man

    • I always keep the bike running when I wash mine.and don't go nuts with the hose around the wires and air intake

    • I hope you give him a healthy tip!

    • If rain and splashing water can get to it while riding there should be no problems. If something is so well protected that water cannot get to it under those normal situations and you do get water there, there may be problems. One example would be inside the gas tank! Another would be inside a light fixture.

I am starting to despise my 84 VT700. On a recent ride it would barely run & backfired badly stranding me. So I flushed the gas, changed the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, ran sea foam through it, new battery & did a oil change. With a lil starting fluid she fired up & ran flawlessly. I was having fun for a couple weeks until it stranded me last night doing the exact same thing except it wouldn't even stay running with the starting fluid I had in the saddle bag. I was tempted to just push it in the ditch & leave it but my son realized how disgusted I was & brought it home to me. Even if I fix it I am going to sell it because It has made me walk home twice in a month & I cant stand to look at it anymore

    • My 1100 was running badly once. Sputtering, backfiring, seemed to die a few times and restarted. Rode it to the shop. They said it needed jets/had the wrong jets. I couldn't understand that as I had it for some time and it ran well before. So I let them change the jets (or so they claimed). Came to pick up the bike and was told they had to jump start it 'cause the battery was dead. Rode off and less than 2 miles down the road same problem with poor running. This time it died before I could make it back to the shop. They sent a truck. Put a new battery and it was back to being it's old self again.

    • I already put a brand new battery in and I have a Delran Battery Tender that keeps it at a full charge. My hunch is that its a fuel delivery issue like a clog somewhere but im no mechanic

    • And compression, that's the other thing you need.

2012 Honda cbr250r — Honda CBR Owners Forum

Selling my cbr 250r that I've had for about a year. Great beginner bike. I think it was a beginner bike for some of the previous owners as it has signs of being dropped but I have replaced the clutch and brake levers and everything works great. Also has an almost brand new rear tire. Bikes not perfect but runs fine starts every time and gets over 70 mpg. Pretty stock bike with some custom lights. Feel free to message with any questions or picture requests. Looking for $3,000 OBO or trade for something like a crf250l (dual sport or supermoto) or a ford econoline.

    • Yeah im a newbie man i dont even know the first step to go. You say cdi or the coil, i say i have no idea what im looking for.lol im lucky i found the spark plug common sense kicked in. i understand either air fuel or spark but i havent changed my air system i topped the gas tank off with gas i always use from gas can at home. And you say my spark plug looks good?

    • Drain a bit of gas in to a glass container. Look for water

    • Figured id drain gas allthe way new fuel filter just cause it was 3 dollars and see what happens if not that it may be my carb. Itself

2006 crf250 — HONDA CRF Dirt Bikes ONLY

Fully rebuilt has 6.5 hrs on the rebuild right now, valves were done right before I bought it last year had the paperwork for them but I've since lost it. Kibble white valves and new springs. New rear tire with 6.5 hours on it. Front tire is like new probably has about 15 hours on it. New rad hoses, oil changed and air filter cleaned every 5 or 6 hours. Has new 14 tooth front sprocket also have a brand new 48 tooth rear that I used for one ride and didn't like so I went back to the 51 tooth that's on it. Rebuild was oem bottom end and 13.5:1 cp piston. Could use a new clutch basket but I put new clutches in it in August. Put an hour meter on it when I rebuilt it, it does need rejetted for the high comp piston other than that the bike runs flawlessly. Could use a new set of plastics rear fender is cracked a little as well as the front where it mounts to the bike. Suspension was done by srs for a 180 rider before I got it. Don't really need to sell but I'm considering upgrading to a fuel injected Honda. NO TRADES. Unless it's a 2010 or newer crf250 lol. I am still riding the bike so the hours will continue to increase. Like I said I'm not dying to sell it just seeing what kind of offers I'll get. Also will add better pics tonight I thought I had a few but I don't.

Im hoping its just because of the cold weather and me only starting it about 10 times since I bought it(finding the sweet spot in the idle). I first want to check and see if their is fuel going into the carbs ; how do I do that...theres a screw somewhere that drains fuel right? If they have fuel Im going to pull the plugs...anything else? Do you think its just a case of me being completely green and it not being over 45 degrees here yet?

I have all the parts ready to start my 450 rebuild, wheel rims fenders and new original exhausts, but I have decided to keep it on the road for the summer before I start.

The only issue I have is that when you are changing up a gear and put the power on, I get what feels like a vibration, it is momentary but is there. Anybody have a suggesting what it could be? It 1974 with 16 k on it. Picture shows bike before I fitted new air filters...

    • That was my thought, drive chain. Mine lets me know it's time t adjust with little shudders like you say.

    • I have used royal purple for motorcycles for years here in the USA. In the 70's it was Castrol GTX...And if it was a two strike Castrol R...Sweet smelling heaven! Royal is expensive but my Valk di 89 k on it and the ST over 50 k, and I am worth it!

    • I guess I am getting old...Too many years of shaft driven bikes. Thank you all for the help, I will let you know this weekend.

I noticed my right bar end weight missing yesterday , not sure if dropped off or was taken , i have spare genuine stepped Honda ones so i went to replace it , on tightening up i noticed it was fowling the throttle grip which is a motr@x heated grip so i had to use 3 small washers as spacers in order to allow throttle spring back , anyone else experienced similar ? I'm not sure how the one i lost was fixed as i never had it removed , i've used small amount of thread lock to hopefully avoid same happening again .

TIA

Hoping somone can give me some advice here. I have an 85 v65 magna i just baught a week ago not running. Carbs were gummed up very badly. I took the carbs off the bike cleaned them and installed new needle and seats in each carb. I did not do a carb sync i figured they were already synced from the factory and i did not remove the mixture screws behind the plates. Just a simple cleaning. Bike runs great. I jeed to adjust the idle up a bit itll idle around 600 rms for a minute then die but if i keep her at 1000 she stays running good. The bike seems to have little more to me. Iv only got it to go 85 so far and thats about it. 4th gear wide open throttle i gain speed very slowly. Is tjat how these bikes are? Or am i missing out on power?

Lithium vs lead battery And why I now have had both Anybody with bad... — Chuckus Life (Honda Ruckus Clone)(Maddog)

Lithium vs lead battery. And why? I now have had both. Anybody with bad experiences with lithium. Contemplating upgrading my stator cus of dual 35W led headlights.

    • Lithium is far superior to lead batteries. Lighter, they dont loose their charge like lead batteries do if they just sit for a while. You can get lithium batteries with double the cranking amps for the same size. only issue is Lithium batteries require a lithium battery charger to keep them in tip top shape

    • I switched to lithium and it wont stay charged. My lead would crank a few times. Had to jump it my last ride which was only the second time i fired that battery up. I had a tender for the lead state. Dont have tender for the lituim yet but dont get why its so dead even after a good long ride. I had same light set up on old battery. Think bigger stator might help or see what happens with lithium tender?

    • well you need to see if your scooter is charging the battery while you are riding. The higher the RPMS the more volts you should be getting to the battery. while parked and the scooter on with the lights if your volts drop low espcially below 12V then that is your issue

    • I always make sure to turn off all lights whiled parked. Rarely turn my underglow on while moving either. Id have to hook up a volt reader to see while moving. Im sure ill figure it out. Just been hearing alot of locals here having more problems after they got lithium as well.

    • to me it seems you got too much aftermarket stuff connected to your scooter and your stator cant handle it all and charge the battery. The volt meter will easily tell you that.

Thx for the add! This is Betty Sue, my second bike I've ever owned! First bike was 85 silverwing our kids were small my wife wanted no part of it period! But the day I bought our 2003 Honda shadow ace deluxe 750 that changed! Wife loves this bike as much as I do...this is a picture that her and my kids had made for me for Father's day years back it now hangs in our new house in my man cave! That was Betty Sue old bedroom! I'm an over the road truck driver so she is only sitting at 17,500 miles! She's got best in class and top 5 in couple local car and bike shows against Harleys! Thinking about turning her into a trike so as we get older and more time we can still keep riding her!!! Again thx!

Question on air filters for my 71 CL450. I am looking at both the original style filters and the pods. I see most people are switching to the pods. Is that what's recommended and do the side covers fit if using pods?

    • I really wanted to go with pods but the bike was too complete so I stuck with the filters.

    • Uni-Filter used to offer a foam filter as mentioned here, but the rubber boot was angled 15 degrees. It allows a little more fine tuning with the fit under the metal side covers.

    • Make sure to use original style filters. These bike are really fussy about filters and exhaust. Modify either and carburetor trouble will haunt you.

    • Over here a running, original 1981xl250s in good condition is worth about £1500-2000

    • My first bike was an all original 1975 xl175. Okay for getting around town, but was a terrible dirt bike. Under powered, short suspension travel, dual shock crap, and no mud clearance. I traded it for body work on my car. Maybe $400-500 worth. My new bike is an '82 xl500r. It's rad. Heavy, but has plenty of power. I paid $800 for my 500 and it's in very good condition. Low miles and stored indoor it's entire life. Stil has the factory front tire even....

    • Yeah that's about £1200 here

It sat for 3 years untouched before I got it. Well here she is from day 1 had to put the rear end together when I got it home. Just showing some progress. Only had it 3-4 weeks I can't remember so far new

    1. Grease on rear shaft

    2. Ball joint grease on all fittings for rear end all the way down to the shaft splines.

    3.new rear end oil

    4 new fuel pump

    5 new fuel filter

    6 pitcock in tank

    7. Fuel hoses throughout the whole system with clamps

    8. New plugs

    9. New coils

    10. New oil/filter

    11. Flush hydraulic line for clutch

    12. Flush front brake line

    13. top off coolant

    14. New fork seals with dust covers

    15. New fork oil

    16. And about 20hrs of my time hell it could be more.

Now if I can get it running right I'll be happy, waiting on my money back from the new ignition module so I can buy oem and not aftermarket.

Street Legal Crf230f clean Title — Honda bobbers

I recently had the bike inspected and registered so there is still a fill year on the tags. This is an awesome bike to crude around town and jump off and hit some trails.... the bike runs great and is electric start so no kicking. I recently went thru the carb and replace everything. Also put a new filter on. Don't really need to sell it just trying to see what I can get. Also looking to trade for a crf450 or any other 450 dirt bike. Lmk what you got..2500 obo

My brother has an 08 rancher 420 4x4 (420fm) when the key is first turned on. The fuel injection light does not come on at all, nor does the temp light but neutral does all other components work fine. Fuel pump is straight wired. It will turn all day but not crank (no spark) kill switch seems to be working fine changed the CDI regulater/rectifier went through all plugs cleaned out good put dielectic grease in them I went through the wire junction s and the middle was cracked and full of mud cleaned it and tried to reuse the grey and brown fuse like deal but they look corroded and black in small areas any help is appreciated also the throttle body doesn't make a single sound at all

    • Why is the fuel pump wired straight? Fuel and spark work together so if you have a problem with t uhh e fuel system (relay ) you will have no spark.

    • It's actually the fuse box that's wired to the battery it's been like that since I've had the wheeler prolly a year or more

Finally had a nice day to take out my 84 VT700 that I had been working on all... — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Finally had a nice day to take out my 84 VT700 that I had been working on all winter. Rode for about 20 minutes and notice it was running kind of hot, not quite in the red though, but closer than I remember my 500 running. So I went home and as soon as I stopped, the overflow tank basically puked all the antifreeze out of the tank. What am I dealing with here? Also, when I killed the engine I could hear the filler neck making a squeaking noise.

Flush again? New thermostat? New cap? Head gasket blown?

    • Anyone have a Honda cross reference for a thermo? The auto ones are like 8 bucks as opposed the the motorcycle ones for 30-40.

    • I had this same issue with my 2006 Sabre recently. I thought it was the cap so I ordered one. But before it arrived, I bought some antifreeze and filled everything and burped the air out a few times and rode the bike and the problem worked itself out. Might have just been an air pocket in the system.

    • I'll try burping the antifreeze again and refilling the overflow tank. If that doesn't work, I found a thread on hondashadow.net that said this thermostat fits the 84 VT700: http://www.autozone.com/coolin g-heating-and-climate-control/ thermostat/valucraft-thermosta t/417241_0_1632_93207

Help!! My bike loses power when throttle opens not even half way have changed plugs no differance have turned out air/fuel as much as can and worked backed from there no change plugs come out pitch black mixture way to rich but even with screws out as much as possible no change. Also front cylinder no fire on and off .......... what else can I look at battery and charging all fine fue filter pump all fine

    • ok...thats more useful info, not coils, they couldnt do that. I go with a carb problem.

    • Holy shit someone that understands what the mixture screw does. I'm sure u know how rare that seems to be.

    • Yes what Steve said. Air/fuel/fire and u already know your getting fuel and it starts and runs so got spark so check the air filter

Okay so my 01 Sabre seems to have issues with downshift whether the engine is... — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Okay, so my '01 Sabre seems to have issues with downshift, whether the engine is cold or warm. On decel, I squeeze the clutch lever all the way and then tap the foot shift lever to downshift like normal. The problem is that sometimes I have to hold down-pressure with my toe and slightly re-engage the clutch (release it back into the friction zone) so the transmission engages, otherwise the foot shift lever "catches" or "hangs" and I can't complete the downshift. This especially shows up when downshifting past neutral to first. Also sometimes when starting cold, I have to slightly engage the clutch when going from neutral to first, just like when I decel. (Seems to be mostly related to going from neutral to first, but I have experienced it some with all gears on decel.) Is this a possible oil issue, or maybe a clutch issue? Or is this "normal?" I admit that I don't have a lot of knowledge about wet clutches, and this is my first bike so I don't have a standard to compare to. (Edited to hopefully clarify what is happening.)

    • On the vtx pages guys that have issues with shifter its usually the pivot points on the linkage need cleaned regreased.

    • I've ran Rotella T6 for a few years but recently seen at walmart they carry valvoline for motorcycles so switched to it since i run valvoline in all my other vehicles.

    • Awesome! That will save a few bucks next time!

6-8" lift for 2007-2013 Rancher 420 built with 1.25" OD heavy wall tubing uses all chromoly heim joints. The lift clears 36s with a 30 degree axle angle. I'm running it about 34 degrees in these pics. It will not come with shocks or shock brackets as I am using fox shocks and do not want to sell them. Includes the following.

    4- a arms

    2- tie rods

1- 10" stretch swingarm built for custom 500 rear end with big paddle

2 Cobra HD axles with 2 rides on them.

    1- 10" stretch rear driveshaft

Will also include the extended brakes lines needed as long as you don't piss me off with a low ball offer.

Asking $1500 as is bare metal for lift.

The lift uses 2012-13 foreman 500 knuckles I have a set I can include for additional $100

If you are interested in buying the paddled 500 rear end with spacers I am asking $500 for it hub to hub complete. I will not sell this separately do not ask.

I can ship at your expense.

Update* Trades are welcome must be of equal or greater value

    • ok thanks

    • It's a coin toss. Some people rejet with just an exhaust some dont. Either pull the carbs and check em... or take it to a shop.

    • I don't know a lot about it, but there are different stages. One if you change exhaust another if you change exhaust and air box. It has to add more fuel for the amount of air flow being increased, but I can't explain it any better than that.

    • David Homan, Ron Brown; do they just have a wire kit or is there a box as well with it? I noticed some photos looked like they had an "amp" of sorts with then

    • It has s small box the light plugs in the box the box plugs into your head light plug it all fits inside headlight housing.

    • Mine is just as you see but some do have a box or whatever too. I would avoid those ones just because its a pain.

I wired up my led headlight bar the way they suggested on chuckus life — Chuckus Life (Honda Ruckus Clone)(Maddog)

I wired up my led headlight bar the way they suggested on chuckus life..when i rev my engine they cut off..anybody know why or can suggest another way to wire

    • It should be simple..im able to get it to light..but once i rev..light goes out..so i know ive got a complete circuit

    • Check out Darby Brown's site. He makes a harness for the switched 12v dc power and a harness to keep hi/low beam on your stock controls. https://sites.google.com/site/ vanagonheadlightrelays/scooter -stuff/chuckus-headlight-dc-po wer/switched-12vdc-jumper-kit? pli=1

    • Scooter wiring is as easy as it gets.

The wires in the photo are reversed. Black on the light goes to green on the scooter harness. Red on the light goes to white on the scooter harness. This allows you to turn the light off by switching to high beam when idling so you save some juice.

The factory wiring is designed for the stock lights @ 18Wea. The Nilight and most other 7" dual row LED light bars pull less than 30W, so there is absolutely no need for a relay or a resistor if you just want a simple on/off with the ignition switch.

Hook the light up as I decribe above, then do the switched power conversion as shown in the tutorial I wrote and you are good to go.

    • Took my wife across lookout mountain today. About 39 miles. She loves riding too. Gonna drag the shadow to smokey mts this summer on a trailer. Wife is disabled so she cant take extremely long rides. Glad yor niece liked her ride and i bet she will want a bike now

    • She never expressed an interest in riding until she was hanging out with Brian Myers and I in the garage on Thursday. And all she's talked about since was her ROTC drill competition and going for a ride on the Phantom.... You can't say no to that!

    • Never got to give my nieces a ride. Almost did once after they finished a ball game which was a few blocks from their home. But her mom butted in saying she didn't want to drive home alone. That was her saying in a nice way that she didn't want my niece riding with me. A couple years later I learned she rode a bike with a friend. =(

What s the tallest bars I can use and get away with stock cables — Honda bobbers

What's the tallest bars I can use and get away with stock cables.

    • Seems legit

    • I would recommend just roughly measuring where you think you'd be comfortable for seated position for long rides (I like 12-14" from stock risers) then shop for the style and height of bars you're looking for.. depending on your controls you may need a bar that has a ditch to prevent pinching electrical wires. Make sure your diameter is right, old japs are 7/8" and newer ones are 1" maybe 1 1/4". Once you found comfortable and cool bars that will fit no problem I would look into ordering custom length hydraulic cable (steel braided) for front brakes. A stretched out stock cable or even just an old stock hydraulic cable will cause spongey brakes. Also not a bad idea to do the clutch cable and throttle as you don't want them to pull on the clutch or intake when turning the wheel. Get these steel braided as well for a cool look and stronger cable shielding. Check to make sure your riser bushings are in good shape and then you got an awesome bar upgrade that's fully functional and safe

    • Thanks for the info. I ordered 8inches over stock I seem to have tons of slack for them. I also ordered a longer brake hose for that reason alone I didn't want it to stretch and I'm holding off on the throttle and clutch because I may so a jockey shift

Fred from Derry, New Hampshire here. I had asked earlier for feeedback about a NX 125 I'm looking at. Thanks for your feedback then. I'm still waiting for the snow to melt here before I can look at it.

I have a new question today for my world-wide fellow fans of the Honda single OHV 4-strokes: Does anybody know if the NX 125 engine, which is limited to an electric start, is interchangeable with other 125 or 100 CFR, XL or SL's (yeah, I know SL 100 or 125 engines are rare these days)?

The NX's electric leg (starter, no kick start) may drive me batty and/or I may want to go bare bones rat dirt bike (think battery eliminator) with it. There is always the bump start method, but that cardiovascular work out gets old.

    Thanks!

PS The NX in the pix is just for reference and isn't the one I'm looking at. That one is painted black and needs at least an new *carbie.

Carbie? Just wordy Fred in Derry, NH trying to sound Australian.

    Cheers!

    • Yeah, something's not right. I was out yesterday with mine, I could just crack the throttle and pass people at 80!

    • I always use premium fuel in all my bikes. Might just be me being fussy but it always seems to make a difference. Maybe its the crap standard in the UK :)

    • Just for reference I cruise at 80 in OD at 3900 rpms.

    • Lahat ng gasolina ngaun eh unleaded na, year 90's yata o 2000 yata pinag bawal nasa batas din natin un, kaya ang pinag pipilian nio lang eh regular or premium, which is ang regular eh low octane less nature friendly fuel additives, at ang premium naman ay higher octane at higher nature friendly fuel additive, ung kulay naman eh para ma-distinguished nila ang fuel nila sa kerosine regular premium at diesel.

    • try mo yung petron blaze... grabe sa tulin

    • Very cool! I have a GL 500. I did not know there was a 700

    • its quite subtle...the most obvious thing is they are a wing interstate on badges not a silverwing...theres some good sites listing the differences!!
