Here s a question that has arose with my 350x When I go to start the machine...

Here's a question that has arose with my 350x. When I go to start the machine it almost feels like the piston gets stuck and the kicker like stops at a certain point. Like when I'm just pumping the kicker it moves pretty freely, but when I bring it up like 3/4 of the way up and try to give it a good kick it feels like it just stops. What is the cause of this? Any help on fixing it would be great! Thanks

  • would a broke ring really be an issue you think?

  • Sounds like your just hitting your compression stroke , your decompression cable may need to be adjusted

  • hmmm okay I can try that. How common is it to adjust the decompression cable? I mean it's the original cable that came with the machine..

  • Mine doesn't even have one lol , 85 86 wasn't yesterday but I believe this could be your issue , it stopping like that is a good thing means you still have a lot of compression

  • Alright cool. Well I'll give it a go and see what happens. I appreciate the help man. Any more issues I'll be sure to post them on here. Thanks for the help.

  • Alright sounds like a plan

  • I had the same problem and it was bent valves the previous owner messed with the timing chain tensioner so the timing was slightly off when he ran it and it cause the valves to bend the slightest bit u cant tell by lookin at them without a micrometer but it was just enough to do what u were describing

  • Compression. It's a good thing. Btw a 350x will kick back and send you over the bars

  • ^ive got three 350x's i had the same problem with the newest one no it wasnt regular compression jude ..U could put a two foot pipe wrench on the end of the kick start and it wouldnt move it was to much compression due to valves being slightly bent so the exhaust valves had a hard time opening as well as the timing being slightly off so the exhaust valves were trying to open when they had the pressure of the compression stroke coming the opposite way

  • TDC or BDC?
