Hi Guys Before I post on the V4 forum I wanted to see maybe someone over here...

Hi Guys. Before I post on the V4 forum I wanted to see maybe someone over here had experienced the problem I am having. So I got a 84 Magna and it came to me without a clutch (basket was in place but no discs and no 'lid') so I ordered a new clutch assembly from an 82 and installed it. (Read that it would fit). Worked great engaged and disengaged just fine but when I went to put the cover back on it wouldn't fit anymore. The clutch presses against side covers inner wall and pushes the cover right off. So is there really a width difference from the old clutch assembly (82) and new (83)? and how could I make it work? Thanks guys for ANY input.

  • I would have to say so. The 1984 is a VF700C while the 1982 is a VF750C. Maybe the put a stronger clutch basket and clutch on the newer models, increasing the width? I assumed that the only thing changed between the engine was the cubic centimeters, but there were various mechanical changes through out those years. You may have to get a 1984 cover, hoping that the bolt holes line up.

  • It's still a 750c because I'm not in the States but yeah I guess they have changed something.

  • Oh- I didn't see you were out of the states!
