Just picked up this 86 rebel 450 cheap and plan on fixing it up it runs great but very rough around the edges all of the chrome pieces have rust on them which I'll probably just sand and paint and the tank is dented and seems to sit pretty far forward because the handlebar mounts hit the tank when turned. But other then cosmetics it seems fine. Im thinking about just adding new lights paint and handlbars. Anyone have any tips on what kind of tank I can use for a replacement? Or things I should check or look out for with the 450? Thanks

I'm a new guy, but I know that whatever Facebook group is out there, there's something called moral and ethical respect. I'm in a VW group with cars with slanty wheels. Many think it's impractical and stupid, and others find it to be a passion and art. As cliche as it sounds, TO EACH THEIR OWN. I'm no admin, but if you don't like it, don't comment. Just keep scrolling or get out. I love seeing different things and I'm sure most of you do too. lol just enjoy life and company of friends and foes. Thanks for any help and future help ladies and gents! I'll be asking a lot while I continue building my "chopped" Rebel lol ✌

Good day all, While reading about all the carb stuff, I realized that this was something I should have done a bit ago, would clear up some things happening. Now for the question...........When is it required to "re-jet" the carb.? I did install the K&N filter, the stock shaped, and the company states that no re-jetting required. Thank you

Went to start the 2005 rebel for the first time this year, discovered that I left the fuel on all winter. Turns over strong cause it was on a tender but won't start. I turned it off and drained the carb with that screw at the bottom got about a shot glass worth of gas out. I'm going to change the oil but should I do anything else to get gas out the the presumably flooded engine? Anything else I need to do?

I've noticed that once I hit about 60, and the bike is topping out at 70, the rear brake pedal starts flapping violently. I tried to steady it by resting my foot on it without pressing the brake and it was actually hurting my foot it was hitting my boot so hard! Any suggestions to help steady it?

Also, is 70mph about as fast as I'll be able to go on this bike? Here in Dallas if you're not able to go 80 on the highway you're doing it wrong... the speed limit on the highways here are 70-75mph.

I am thinking about, once I get my bike home in a few days, starting to brainstorm and sketch out a custom side car. One that will allow for leaning and easier maneuvering than a traditional sidecar and would fit one or two mediumish dogs. It's probably been done somewhere before, but I've only seen something similar on a scooter when I started searching for this online.

Probably thinking more something enclosed, like a cage to dissuade a dog from bailing. No seat like for a person, which should simplify things.

Hey, I'm purchasing this beauty here. Considering saddlebags for it, if anyone has suggestions.

I also have seen some pictures here and there of people riding with their larger dogs. Does anyone do this? I have two standard poodles, one is my retiring service dog the other is training as his successor. If there is a way to help make sure he's not going to fall off I'd consider taking him along with me. Maybe a pull behind?

Update from my last posting on this issue, since my last oil change iv noticed a slight sweating around the drain plug , crush washer was changed still sweating, i remedied this by using a small amount of silver testers modeling paint around the base of the crush washer to form a seal. Anyone else experience this ? worse comes to worse I am now saving for an eventual engine overhaul just in case the left hand crank case cover drain hole has developed a crack , that means that the left hand crankcase cover will have to be changed, i dread this but i am not losing the bike it is fairly new with only 3,425 miles.

Hey guys, I need some help. I made a pretty dumb mistake so please keep sarcastic comments to a minimum. I had my 1986 450 carbs gone through and rebuilt by a shop. Since i put them back on the bike runs pretty well, but backfires a lot. I wanted to adjust the fuel mixture, however these have a little "tang" on the screw to prevent you from turning them more than about 3/4 of a turn (maybe someone can tell me why). I tried to cut the tang off and i broke the whole screw off... Anyone have a good carb exploded diagram that shows that screw with a part number?

Hello guys, need some help ! Rebel 250 had some problems with carb. Fuel was leaking out. Took it off and cleaned it, replaced gasket of the float chamber. I took it completely apart. Now when I have re-installed it, engine will not start. Now more leaking and float chamber fills up. Does not receive (enough) fuel in cylinders. I am not familiar with this type of carb and wonder if I connected everything right. I have one major question : what triggers the needle jet with the kind of vacuum pump to "raise" ? Can it be that if not connecting the tubes/hoses right, there's no vacuum in the upper chamber so the needle stays down (and closed) ? Can someone please explain what I shouild check, how the carb works, how I need to connected the hoses ? As far as I can see the tube on the vacuum piston driving the needle connects to a T-piece which is connected also to the float chamber overflow tube and then through the frame into nowhere, right ? Must I connect the choke when testing or should I be able to start without the choke cable installed ? Your help is highly appreciated, bit desperate right now !

Hello Guy, thanks for having me here ! Today I accidentally pulled a fuel tube from the carburator (see picture) It leaks fuel (quite a bit) .. Can Anyone tell me where/what it should be connected to? Diagram ? Picture ? I hear that it should just go nowhere, overpressure exhaust or something ? So why does it leak so much ? Thanks for your help !!!

    I recently purchased a 94 Honda Rebel 250 — Honda Rebel 125 250 450

    I recently purchased a 94 Honda Rebel 250.

Turned the engine over this morning and felt that idle was much lower (on choke).

Noticed a proportionate amount of fuel that leaked on the ground also.

More fuel would leak upon turning the engine over.

A quick inspection and I noticed a hose near the exhaust which it was leaking from.

    Is this the overflow hose?

If so, can anyone provide me with a screencap pinpointing the whereabouts of the carburetor drain screw?

Had my oil changed three weeks ago I just have taken the bike out today for the first time since then and noticed seepage at the drain plug by the ending of a 40 mile ride. The mechanic had installed a new crush washer it seem's to e a little larger around the outer edges then the factory crush washer . Any opinions on this ? could it be the wrong sized crush washer causing seepage or the drain plug just needing a bit tightening up?

1982 Honda Custom 450, now I have the KEIHIN 22H (HBC90) Carbs, now I heard a little rumour that they prefer to run off still air and if I put cones straight on, they will cause the engine to lose power (although I am not 100%) but I don't like standard air boxes, so K & N cones are for me, now is there any re jetting rules for these specific carbs or will they continue as normal.

    Thanks

Anyway enjoy looking at the mess :D
