I think my local Honda dealer is nutts. I call them up tell them. I have a 1986 Honda V45 Magna had to explain to them what it was. lol Then I said I need an oil change and my coolant swapped out. He said sorry we dont work on bikes over 10 years old. So i tell him its in perfect shape always garage kept 20,000 miles. Then he says ok we will do it. Then says well I cant find any info on that year or model of bike in our system. Then says but we will be hapy to do it the total will be $200 plus tax. I said for a oil change and a coolant drain and fill you must be crazy and I hung up my phone. I normally would do this myself but I figured i dont feel like laying on the ground at this time and I could see paying $100 maybe $150 but over $200 with tax Holy shit!!

1985 magna 700. I cleaned and rebuilt my carbs. Almost positive everything is back together proper. It turns over but wont start. Im hoping its just because of the cold weather and me only starting it about 10 times since I bought it(finding the sweet spot in the idle). I first want to check and see if their is fuel going into the carbs ; how do I do that...theres a screw somewhere that drains fuel right? If they have fuel Im going to pull the plugs...anything else? Do you think its just a case of me being completely green and it not being over 45 degrees here yet?

Hoping somone can give me some advice here. I have an 85 v65 magna i just baught a week ago not running. Carbs were gummed up very badly. I took the carbs off the bike cleaned them and installed new needle and seats in each carb. I did not do a carb sync i figured they were already synced from the factory and i did not remove the mixture screws behind the plates. Just a simple cleaning. Bike runs great. I jeed to adjust the idle up a bit itll idle around 600 rms for a minute then die but if i keep her at 1000 she stays running good. The bike seems to have little more to me. Iv only got it to go 85 so far and thats about it. 4th gear wide open throttle i gain speed very slowly. Is tjat how these bikes are? Or am i missing out on power?

Question/Problem here with my V45 1982 Magna @ any speeds higher than say 40-50 if I let one hand off bars it starts to wobble and when I just touch the hand to the bar either right or left it stops and is smooth as silk- I had it up to 110 mph few times up + down and no problem with tire wheel hop etc but if were to let one hand off the bars say at 80mph it will wobble real fast small signature - I tried tire pressures -there two new tire front and rear-Shinkos and i ride all year hot and cold weather and is the same

      Any Ideas?

PS I have fender brace in place all stock i installed new brakes new handle bars lowered the forks 2 inches -and rebuilt front forks seals new oil -everything is tight triple tree is perfect good bearings etc

wheel bearing are fine as well- I installed front tire and rear myself and the bead is symmetrical all the way around

Im lost to what is making it wobble

        Hi Guys,

I"m considering buying this 85,V65 magna.

It has all newly painted parts (tank, finder ,side covers) The bike was parked 3 years ago to do the paint work. It needs minor reassembly of the painted parts even though the picture shows it assembled. The master clutch cylinder and or clutch slave cylinder needs replacement. I feel the bike has been stored outside because the throttle and choke cable are locked up and there is various minor rusted parts. The owner says that all it needs is a battery , fresh gas and a reserve tank cleanout. I feel it will need at least a Billy Carr carb rebuild since it wasnt properly prepped for storage. These bikes rapidly deteriorate sitting out fro 3 years and i wonder what else could be wrong with it. I do feel the bike probably ran fine when he parked it otherwise he would have not spent the time and money on the paintwork. I have no problem working on he bike and actully enjoy it. He wants $1500 for it. It has 20,000 miles on it.

What do you think ...is it worth it?

I've got a 83 magna I purchased last year after it sitting in storage for 10 years. Nice bike, came from my uncle. I however being young and dumb put a jump box on it to try to crank it over, instead of just buying a new battery. Long story short, something melted down and now it has no power to the cluster. I checked the main fuse, and unfortunately it had been jumped with a wire, which tells me I damaged something in the harness itself. Does anyone have a master schematic I could look through to try to fix my issue? Anyone ever run into something like this before?

Following on from my previous post. Everything now fitted and working, new led indicators, stebel nautilus air horn and driving lamps.

For anyone interested i used a dual relay for the horn and lamps and managed to fit it into the space behind the front fuses.

I will eventually look at upgrading to led H3 lamps for the driving lights but only have a limited depth inside the lamps and most leds are quite long in length and not quite as high lumens compared to the incandescent lamps, so thats got to wait for a while.

Any one on here have a good understanding on the electrical side of things on an 84 v65 manga???

Last year my starting solenoid went out got on line found one for $20 called my local dealership to see how much an OEM would cast and it was $70 so me being a cheap ass bought the cheaper one...it worked a dozen or so times that I tested it in the drive way so I thought I was good to go went for a ride and tried to turn off and it kept trying to start so I went back home threw it in 6th to kill it and let it crank over until the battery died this was right at the end of the riding season sat over winter called Honda again to get a new one thinking that it was because I bought a cheap one my luck the way it is this year it cost my $120...just put it in and with the 4 wire plug plugged in the correct way it gave me 2 lights on no matter what (the blue and red lights by the speedo) reversed that plug the lights went away but no crank after that I turned key off looked down and was smoking so I disconnected the battery and the plug can't find out what was smoking felt my starter and it wasn't hot any suggestions??? If this doesn't make sense I'm sorry I'm running on 2 hours of sleep and been awake for 22 hours lol any help is appreciated

I have an '83 V45 Magna that needs fork seals replaced. I plan to do it this spring but I also have a complete parts bike that has good fork seals. I'm thinking of just swapping them for now so I can take my time rebuilding the original ones.

Unless someone tells me that the rebuild is so easy that I don't need to worry about it taking more than a day or two.

                Thoughts? Thanks

Have been going through my 32 year old Honda Sabres and replacing ALL critical or funtional rubber. Here is a GREAT tool that cuts oil consumption pretty much to ZERO. Don't make me say it again ZERO oil burning, no fouling plugs, no SMOKE, better performance and you can do the work with the engine IN the bike AND no need to replace $50 head gaskets cause engine stays together!!! I'm betting 90% of you guys/gals could use this. High performance Viton/Teflon Valve seals are cheap at $33/set of 16 (stock Honda rubber ones $26/set). Guy who made tool is aircraft mechanic, Tom, Sells on eBay for $65 with shipping!!! He has 7 V65s. ;-)

I was getting my 84 v45 magna ready for inspection next week and the only issue was the horn not being very loud and flat sounding- the one on the left seemed to be the culprit I was going to replace with one off my parts bike but I noticed the adjustment screw was almost all the way out so I screwed it in some. After that no horn at all, so I put the parts one on and nothing- either one. Is there a fuse for the horn? and where are the fuses on this bike? I checked both side covers but no fuses- There is a plastic cover under the headlight with wires coming in from the back but I cant figure out how to get that cover off, doesnt seem to be much holding it. Any help would be appreciated.

I put a Slipstream SS28 windshield on tonight. I'm about 5'10" and it comes up to about my chin. For me to get underneath it I have to get really low. Not sure yet how much wind protection it will give me, but I like the way it looks and it's the exact size I wanted. Can't wait to get it out for a long ride.

Took the V65 Sabre out for a ride tonight and the throttle response was poor and didn't seem to run at full power at all times. It would bog down one moment. Then catch and take off like it normally should. While idling it would have small back fires or on small revs. When I would rev it, it didn't want to full rev like it normally should. It would take a moment to get up to a full rev. Couple days ago didn't have this problem. Everyone's first answer will be Carbs. Everyone's worst nightmare lol

After it runs a while and warms up I really don't hear it anymore and it runs fine but It concerns me. I don't like to get to involved with internal engine issues myself, I leave it to the pro's. I tried starting the bike again after a few hours and there was a loud bang. Maybe backfire? I tried again and the bike started but has almost no power and shuts off after a few seconds of idling. Any thoughts/ suggestions?

Good afternoon everyone, sure could use some help here. I tried bleeding the rear brake on my 84 V65 Magna. I accidentally let go of the foot pedal while I had the bleeder valve open and lost Prime to the rear brake. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a brake bleeder pump . I was able to get fluid to flow through and still have no Pressure.. I was told from two different Honda dealers that the rear brakes on these can be a pain in the ass. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I finally got time to look at it and found the key switch had came apart so $22 later I replaced it and it ran perfect but when I got it on the road and after about 20 mph the wind started the cooling fan motor turning and the faster I went the louder it got and it doesn't stop until you are

under 5 mph any ideas as to what's going on??

Having a hard time locating a replacement choke cable for my 84 V45 Magna. According to dealerships the part is no longer available OEM or aftermarket from 84-87 inclusive.

Bought a cable that has the correct size attachment "buttons" that connect it at either end (don't know proper name for them), but it's short.

Can someone tell me the distance from the choke lever on the carb to the triple tree? I have aftermarket bars, I know it wouldn't fit stock bars.

You may remember this bike being listed for sale last week. Well, I bought it basically sight-unseen. It has definitely seen better days but I am going to see what I can do to get it running. Bike is complete with lots of spare parts. The guy I bought it from says it runs but has some carb issues. It's a place to start.

Once I get it running right I may have to part it out anyway due to a title issue. I figure worst case I have a ton of extra parts to keep my identical twin bike alive for a long time.

                                            To be continued....

There was something wrong with the sixth gear. It started all of the sudden: I was riding around the city for a bit and then took off on the highway (earphones in, music load) and when I got to the 6th it felt terribly wrong - gear slipping even when just keeping up a constant speed. So I stop, remove earphones, start the engine again and it's rattling in N, in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but not in the 5th, so I got home (~300t km) in fear of everything happening :D The conclusion is a bent 5th and 6th gear shift fork, the rattling was because of the bent fork that was allowing the 5th gear to barely engage when the bike is in N or in first four gears.

Anyone with ideas why that fork got bent.. please enlighten me :)

I'm hoping one of the Gurus will be able to help... The sketches I've looked at are "sketchy" (pun intended) at best and so compressed it makes it hard to see whats actually been drawn...

I said "God, I don't know much about motorcycles, and if what I do fixes it, I know it is by your grace of inspiration." So I put a used salvage kill switch and starter switch on. And a charged battery. And I hit it and it fired. So I put the tank back on, opened the petcock, hit it and she's running great. Cranks every

Not bitch wired like it was, with by passes and burned wires and jerry rigged. Even turn signals work. This one is in Extremely Nice condition with only 3,820 actual miles and shows very well! Brand new correct white lettered Dunlop Qualifier tires, battery and all fluids. I have 2 of these awesome 120 horsepower bikes so letting one go. Needs a good home and some detailing. Even still has the gold fuel sticker on the gas tank that practically everyone removed and is just like the day it came off the showroom floor 32 years ago. Also comes with a full cover. Highly Doubt you will find another with this low miles and condition.

Here's the challenge. I replaced the wiring harness because the original was pretty cut up, the new one has no cuts and it was all original. I did have to replace the fuse panel because the original one had more than a few broken tabs and I figure more were on their way to breaking. Everything works with the exception of the tachometer. And I have two wires that I cannot find a mate for, one is black with a brown stripe and it's ganged with the left front turn signal group of wires, and the second is a gray with white stripe pair wire ganged with the right side front turn signal wires.

First one they can tell me where these two wires go, not just what circuit, wins the burrito. I do have a original factory service manual with the wiring diagram and it looks like the black with a brown striped wire is in the stop and tail light sensor circuit. I cannot find the grey with white wires on the diagram.

Good luck and the first correct answer wins.

So finally I need to replace the sight glass for the clutch master cylinder on my 1985 V65 Sabre (will do the same with the brake one), since my quick&dirty repair with clear epoxy got eaten by the fluid after almost 5 months. So I found some listings in ebay for oem like plastics, other for actual glass, and some Chinese made stuff. The oem like plastic replacement seems promising since only with pressure it got sealed with its o-ring and the glass ones need some sealant. Do you have any experience replacing this, any recommendations? I live in mexico and its quite hard to get those kind of replacements since it is not a popular model here.

He tore them down and there's a considerable amount of corrosion inside the bodies from moisture. When I bought this bike the guy told me how it had been babied and stored dry and sang to and blah blah blah. Thankfully I have a set of parts carbs to send off to Billy, or I'd be in this project alot deeper than I already am. When I am done this old girl is going to sing.

I'd like to start a discussion on bike values and pricing. I bought a 30,000 mile V45 Sabre two months ago. It was another example of a bike that "has been setting for a year or two and just needs carbs cleaned and a good tune up". He wanted a grand, dropped to $800, I ended up buying it for $550 and dragging in 250 miles home. Not including my labor, I'm into the carbs for $300, cleaning and sealing the tank for $150, misc filters and plugs and such for another $100, and its gonna need tires which I'm sure will be $250 to $300. Seat has a slight tear but we'll live with that until we come across a good one at a swap meet somewhere. So now we're up to about a $1400 investment in this machine. Look at all the OK examples of 82-85 Sabres out there, most needing the aforementioned "carbs cleaned and tune up". The running ones that are ready to ride are sitting for months on Craigslist at $1500. What are you guys seeing for selling prices across the spectrum?

As you might know, I changed filters, replaced plugs, cleaned it up, and she ran like a panther, breathing right. But when I parked and after awhile went to crank, all i got was click of solenoid relay. I recharged battery, cleaned cables, still nothing, just solenoid. So, I went out tonight and bridged the solenoid with a wire, still nothing. So I got feeling to try this, I put bike in first gear, rocked it a few inches back and forth, returned it to neutral, hit starter button and it cranked right up. What am asking you guys that have more experience, what is likely to be the problem?

Was lovely day yesterday weatherwise, so I decided to attack this '94 magna v 45 I had purchased a few weeks ago. When I went to get it, it cranked. I trailered it back and it cranked up and I took it for a mile and a half spin, which was risky because back tire was bald, like....raw. Anyway, I parked it in garage and after that it wouldnt start. Then I got an agm battery, and still no start. So yesterday I pulled the filters, one was gone, the side filter, and i couldn't believe the trash. I replaced, and cleaned up, one trumpet had apparently been pulled erroneously and broken tag, when they (PO) changed jets.I cleaned all that up, replaced plugs, coolant. Had wrong plugs in it, autolites......they had broken radiator also so fixed that. Cleaned gas tank, fresh gas. Put it back together hit start and she purred like a panther, and I hauled up and down street for about 45 minutes, loving the raw power. Parked it as we all stood around smiling and enjoying day. Went to crank it up to take to garage and all I get is solenoid click. So, I'm at a loss. They ran a green wire from the fuse box, just laying under a 10 amp fuse on one clip of that, to the black and white ignition wires, which normally would go into a plug, both sides are cut from the plug and so two ends are wrapped around the green wire. Why would they do that ? Somehow I feel my problem is related to that. I havent had time to go further into it....how do i test the stator(?) the three yellow wires?
