A project of the XR Community
Last year , after the massive destruction that happened in Cagayan Valley brought about by Super Typhoon Lawin, The XR community decided to provide financial and logistical support to an organization called FEED Philippines in their feeding program and outreach for the poor communities in the remote parts of Tumauini Isabela.
The XR community volunteers namely myself, Jvhan Accel, Atoy Mo, and Willie Palenge provided the much needed logistical and transportation support in bringing members of FEED Philippines to the boondocks.
We realized that if we had a motorcycle with us, our mobility in scouting and reconoiteering hard to reach places would greatly improve and find the need for a small offroad capable motorcycle that can easily be carried inside a Delica van or a pickup.
So this year, with the help of other active members of the community, we decided to embark on a project we call the ERB, or Emergency Reconnaissance Bike. The bike has to have the ff characteristics:
1. Fuel Injected - For easy start even after long storage.
2. Very light - 95kgs or less
3. Small - must fit inside a Delica van
4. Offroad capable
The members of the community suggested different motorcycles but we eventually thought that the Suzuki Raider J 115Fi would be the best candidate for our requirements. The only problem is that the Raider J in its stock form is not really designed for offroad so we did some modifications on the bike.
Thank you Haring Bandido and Friddy Levoit Balaguer for contributing a lot of ideas to identify the right bike. Thank you Thoto T. Morales for scouting for possible shops who can do the conversion. Thank you Darwax De la Cruz for helping me purchase the bike. Thank you Jvhan Accel for spending 3 days of your valuable time to convert the bike and Thank you to the rest of the XR community active members who contributed ideas to make this project possible.
Next time there is an emergency, The XR community is better prepared to take the challenge. :)
