You know, I refused a Facebook account for a long time.... I would go to forums ask questions, and either I'd get a bunch of BS from people who just wanted to talk and didn't have any answers, or there would end up some sort of nerd fight. Not just bikes either, pick your category... I assumed facebook to be a bunch of the same. I finally joined Facebook, and this group. I find a bunch of like minded guys, who talk informative and clear. Just wanted to say how refreshing that is.... Keep up the great work guys!!!! And those are some pretty sweet bikes y'all got!

Anybody have any experience changing primary gears keep hearing a noise coming... — Honda Shadow Aero

Anybody have any experience changing primary gears keep hearing a noise coming from the lower front of the motor thought it was the clutch but had a buddy help me and we both think it may be the primary gear. How can you tell if it's bad? Thanks in advance for the help

  • So, I replaced my front brake pads, rear shoes and changed my oil and filter. I have several filter wrenches but all are to large for the filter so I bought a plier type filter wrench (Auto Zone) thinking it should work. But it failed to grip the filter without slipping. What type wrench seems to work best?

Urgent help needed . My exhaust has been blowing since I got it . So I thought I would investigate . So I found one of the front studs had been modified . As I Un did the modified bolt . Snap . So I took the manifold off and to my horror this is what I found . I haven't got a clue how to go about this. I can't see me getting an accurate hole trying to drill it out on my own . As you can see the stud snapped at one point the some dickhead decided to drill one side and drill the other and put the smallest bolt in the world to hold the gasket in . Help and advise pretty please

%d comments
  • When mine went I cut the ali back 3mm and ground the stud down on both sides to take a 7mm spanner and used a lot of heat and it came out easy

  • Secondhand head on ebay for £40 Job done :-)

  • That looks well and truly fooked. Mine was like that and the head had to come off and be drilled in an engineering shop. I had them then fit time serts in so it will never happen again. Cost £20 + new head gasket.

Photos from William Beitz's post — Honda Shadow Aero

Realized I was looking through the top 1 inch of the windshield so I cut 1 1/4 inches off the top and now looking over the top and have a better view of the road. No noticeable change in air flow. Made a template (pink Bristol board was $1 versus $4 - $5 for other colors. Easy using the horizontal bar on the windshield then cutting off the amount to be removed, tracing this onto the masking taped screen, cut and finish. About 1 1/2 hours to do. Not a job to rush at but very easy.

  • Switch Blade by American Cycle.

  • Make sure you ride on that new seat for awhile before cutting too. The seat will have a break in period and compress some.

  • Thanks Theresa.

Hi guys Looking to sell my firestorm which I haven t used for a couple of years — Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm owners

Hi guys Looking to sell my firestorm which I haven't used for a couple of years (been in storage) as me and the good lady are getting hitched. It's a 2003 in yellow, standard cans with baffles out and renthal down geared sprockets and chain. Tyres good. Heated grips. Couple of cracks on fairing, nothing to bad (May get them repaired to try and sell it) It's done 13000 And can be taxed and mot'd with new battery. Trouble is I haven't got a clue what it's worth. Any interest or helpful suggestions or where to try and flog it would be brill. On another note it's been my favourite bike and il be sad to see it go, although the mrs defiantly won't (she hates them) lol

%d comments
  • late registered early model, with all the correct paperwork, it should be worth around the £1750. firestorm prices are very strange, last year I picked up a tatty 11k 53plate late model bike for £1600, if you write up a good advert with lots of good pictures and really sell the bike, I reckon the £1750 is obtainable mate.

  • Not much. It's yellow!! Lol. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Good luck. £1600 +

Started working on her today!! Was trying to clean the carbs but got stuck taking the air box cover off, a bunch of stripped screws stopped us in our tracks. Good thing I got the rebuild kit from billyc so I'll replace all of the screws when I rebuild it.

%d comments
  • I got the rebuilt kit at http://www.v4market.com/. Cost about $148 for the mega+ kit that came with a bunch of stuff for rebuilding the carb. Got a screw extractor kit today so I'm going to work on getting the carb apart tomorrow.

  • Thanks

  • So I got the carbs taken apart- mostly. I ended up having to grind out a notch on the screws and hammer the crap out of it to get them to loosen. finally got all the carbs off but I had to finagle the carbs off the airbox so I did not get a chance to really see how the linkages connect. Gonna clean em today, hopefully I can figure out how the put it all back together!

  • the cars part already, but I put that down to a combination of my hi-viz lid and my cheap aftershave :-P

  • when the time comes to fit your new end cans, i'd suggest buying some new mikalor clamps, the oem ones rust over time, I've had to cut some off in the past, also it might be worth buying two new graphite seals via ebay £5 each, although i'm not 100% sure the remus cans will need them, I know the oem ones do. spray the clamps every day for a week with wd40 or something similar just follow the end can back to the headers and you will see there's one clamp on each side.

  • They are learner plates :( over here you do a piss easy test and you can ride 50cc (at 16) and a 125cc(at 17) on L plates, although cannot take passengers or go on motorways. I just can't afford £500 to do the test at the minute

  • What happens if you just say screw it & take them off, then get caught?

  • Depends on the cop, i have been pulled without them and give them the old "they was on when I left my house officer, promise" sometimes you get away with it, but if you find a wanker he can give you 6 points (3 for each L plate) and you will lose your license, as you can only get 6 points on L plates.

  • Thank you for telling me Im talking bollocks. Glad u understabd my job better than I do. Good luck mate, no hard feelings.

  • I'm guessing they make a profit on some, and not on others. They have a business to run.

  • I understand where kevin is coming from, but you do get some dealers trying it on to maximise profits, because of the internet, the retail sector is taking a pasting, I wouldn't want to run a bike shop with all the over heads, just to see a trader pretending to be a private seller making good profits because they're working out of there own property and have a van in their drive way ready to deliver a bike anywhere in the country.

  • You have black foot peg assembly (don't know the right word: the thing where you attach the peg), and also the rear fork is black; is it stock colour (mine is silver-grey)..??

  • Yes, it's stock color. Mine is the dark grey version with army camouflaged spots. All other parts are black, so these low pegs in silver grey don't match.. It's only a detail but I like to have it perfect.

  • I like the colour! Thinking of painting certain parts is black during next winter...

  • hi jack, sorry, I missed your comment about a twin of similar power. Kawasaki don't do any big twins now. I would say your nearest new bike would be a Triumph 1050 triple, or a Ducati 1200 monster. The later costs more, but will hold its value better. For used bikes, there are plenty. Suzuki TL1000 or SV1000 are good and cheap, as are the Aprilia RSV1000 models. The older ducatis are also good, and really do hold their values - a used Ducati 900-1200cc superbike will never drop below £3-4k if kept road worthy. But the older bikes need much more frequent servicing.

  • That yamaha mt thing has a 850cc triple.

  • oh yeah, the new yams

Discovered that the "vibration" issues are down to having an hydraulic cam chain tensioner. Told, I should get a manual adjuster fitted, so any further issues that arise, I can just adjust it manually. Listening to the engine, I can hear a jangling noise like nails shaken in a bucket. So much for the brilliance of Honda. Never had this issue with my Yamaha FZ6.

2 questions for you...

The 2 bolts at the bottom of the front of this exhaust won't tighten? I don't know if they are going into a threaded hole or a nut has fallen of the back of them? I need to know what to buy if anything before I remove the exhaust so I'm not left waiting for parts off the road.

Also how do I tidy up all the cables, what do you guys do? It looks messy!

%d comments
  • There are 2 top 2 bottom, the top ones are tight, the bottoms are loose. The other can is fine.

  • Ah right it must have stripped the threads on the bottom.

You could just silicone them in as long as the top ones are tight it's not going anywhere

  • Cable tie along the rear sub-frame. Just not too tight as one is a pipe.
