Here's a little Honda trivia: of the 8000 acres that Honda owns outside of Marysville Ohio ( subsequently where all the pre 09 aero's were made) 3000 of those acres are used to grow Tofu Beans. Most of the empty rail containers are then refilled with these beans and shipped back to Japan. This way, Honda doesn't pay to ship empty containers, and it helps the Japanese economy. They actually have a grain silo on the plant grounds.

    • Interesting.

    • The Mother Country must be fed - Japan is very tiny geographically in relationship to it's industrial and manufacturing strength and skilled labor force.

So my 99 Shadow Aero VT1100c3 has a gas leak. I bought my bike last Feb and since its arrival I've smelled gas in the garage. So bad at times I've been nervous about making dinner. Blah, long story short - I had one guy give it a once over and he tightened the clamp near the petcock. Seemed to work, but really I think the tank was just low enough on gas that I didn't notice it as bad. Fast forward to this week I finally took it to the Honda shop. Found out today that there is a TON wrong with my bike. :( First thing we are going to address is the petcock needing to be replaced and they said there is a leak in the tubing to the petcock and they are going to replace the fuel filter. That is $370 in labor plus parts. Geez. They said the clamps are off near the motor signaling the fact that the motor has been removed at some point. There were a few places where this was the case. Also said there was an oil leak somewhere, but that there was oil in the engine - so it's probably not a big urgent thing. He also said there was something 'very expensive' that needed to be fixed and I don't remember what it was. By now my eyes had popped right out of my head and I could process no more. Thanks for letting me vent, I needed to get that out. I love love love my bike, but wow - it's gonna cost me a fortune to get it back in shape. Oh, one good thing was that I was afraid the tank was rusted because the original owner only put 2000 mi on it in 10 years, the 2nd owner 10,00 in 2 yrs - but they said the tank itself looks fine.

Replaced the stock seat with a new Mustang Vintage last weekend. AMAZING — Honda Shadow Aero

Replaced the stock seat with a new Mustang Vintage last weekend... AMAZING! Much more comfortable... and a better riding position as well... also, the wife says the pilon is a HUGE difference as well. Would definately recommend this to anyone still riding a stocker!!!

    • I just changed mine too. What do you think of how the rear of the seat supports your lower back? It's a much different feel. I only have about a hundred miles on the new seat and so far I like it.

    • Agreed, the mustang seat is awesome... on my second riding season and it continues to mold to my shape... hugs my arse!

    • I'm going on a poker run this weekend to race money for firefighters and I'll log aroung 250 miles. I know for sure then how I like it. I debated 3 years before I bought it since it was so expensive.

    • Gave a lot of though as to whether or not to get the backrest as well.. decided to go without and the pilon does provide much more support to my lower back than the stock did. I'm sure the backrest would have been even better, but quite a bit more expensive. So far, no regrets on spending the $$. Makes riding much more enjoyable! Good luck on your poker run Dave Slate

Okay. so I purchased a Shark Audio speaker system for the bike. Worst part — Honda Shadow Aero

Okay......so I purchased a Shark Audio speaker system for the bike. Worst part.....one of the speaker grills were shattered. Then I hooked up the good speaker.......and it sounds great! Only prob......for those of us that have the 98-02 single pin Aeros, the speaker mounts are not stout enough, and they mount to the mirrors, which .......well........doesn't work to well. Make sure you purchase the handlebar mounts separately. Hopefully they, and the new speaker show up soon! Oh, and you would have to have saddlebags.......its the only place you can fit the amp. But for the price.......it seems to be an excellent trade off.

    • Call MS and they will replace any broken parts . They sent me a new shield after I overtightened a bolt and cracked it. All of my mount hardware is holding up good though.

    • I haven't had any problems with my bracket and it's been on since the bike was new ('06 with 19,000 miles). What keeps happening to yours?

    • David, same here. The newer bikes don't seem to have the issue, nor does the 02-04 models. It's the first generation with the single pin crankshaft that have all the issues. They always break at a bend. I've almost had my windshield come off before. Once one breaks, it loosens the bolts on the other. I know MS replaces them for free, But I've grown tired of replacing them. I could understand if it were an issue with the bike, but this is not the case. MS has told me before that this is the correct shield for the bike, that it will withstand the added vibration from the harder lope. I say, they need to product test this again.........

    Hi,

When we talk about an Indian Motorcycle, we usually talk

about the looks, engine capacity and bhp.

But there is one more important thing we do not see...

power to weight ratio. Mostly because companies do not make

it a habit to include it in the spec sheet every time.

But it can be an important factor in comparing two

    competing motorcycles.

Our fellow blogger Satadal Payeng has made a post explaining

the concept of power to weight ratio and has made a list

57 motorcycles in India with the highest to lowest power

    to weight ratio.

    Check it out here:

    • Cheryl Losh Hudson makes an excellent point that I didn't consider.. very logical.

    • Here in South Australia, it is common to wear the right side of tire apparently because of the crown in the road. We drive on the other side of road. So half the year you have to go to england, australia or New Zealand.

Pictures: Step by step on how to change engine oil and filter to a Honda Shadow Aero!

    • Dave, I can tell you for a certainty that the filters are torqued with a wrench and the seals are not lubricated. I use a factory filter, but I also work at the Honda service center here on the plant grounds. I pass by the former bike plant every day. It's disheartening knowing that they are no longer made here. This was the beginning of Honda in the USA.

    • I've done oil changes on everything from a GE gas turbine starter to a motorcycle. Nothing has ever been that tight as my factory installed filter. I had to carefully punch a screwdriver through it to remove it. Never had a bit of trouble after that. My old CBR600 had it in the front under the headers. Always ended up dripping oil on them. Under the frame is cleaner.

    • When we talk about basic maintenance and long term health of your ride, you can't underestimate the value of frequent oil and filter I like to change every 2000 miles, earlier if planning a long ride or if getting ready to put it away for winter.(Old oil becomes acidic and can do damage to your engine even if it is just sitting in the garage.) I use Bosch 3300 filters which for a couple extra bucks seem to be much better constructed than the Fram, but honestly if you change every 2000 miles, I don't think the brand of oil filter will matter much.. If you're really interested in an unbiased, cut-through-the bull analysis of oil and oil filters, take a look at: http://www.calsci.com/motorcyc leinfo/FilterXRef.html
