I think my local Honda dealer is nutts. I call them up tell them. I have a 1986 Honda V45 Magna had to explain to them what it was. lol Then I said I need an oil change and my coolant swapped out. He said sorry we dont work on bikes over 10 years old. So i tell him its in perfect shape always garage kept 20,000 miles. Then he says ok we will do it. Then says well I cant find any info on that year or model of bike in our system. Then says but we will be hapy to do it the total will be $200 plus tax. I said for a oil change and a coolant drain and fill you must be crazy and I hung up my phone. I normally would do this myself but I figured i dont feel like laying on the ground at this time and I could see paying $100 maybe $150 but over $200 with tax Holy shit!!

Hey all,

So I bought this speedo on eBay because a few people on here said they bought one similar and was able to hook it up. But just glancing at it, everything on it is electronic. There is no place for the speedo cable or anything like that. So can anyone give me a hint as to what I need to do or buy? It also comes with a wiring diagram for everything and I can post that if needs be. Thank you

  • Speedometer sender

  • I just bought the same one, haven't tackled it yet, it looks fairly simple to hook up. The only thing I haven't figured is how to mount it. What type of mount do you plan to use.

  • I plan on just making my own. Welding one together. Haven't got a good second to check it out really because I got it this morning and I've been working. But tomorrow I'm going to check it out better. It looks like I may just use the magnet speedo cable. I'm probably gonna run it where the old speedo cable was

  • Nah they got to make the x model better they focus and gay ass supercross

  • That's what I am saying, Honda needs to update the X series bikes. They are very popular yet they act like they don't care about them. It's 2017 and they are still building carbs on the things

  • Just unscrew and watch out for a spring, small flat washer and an o ring in the hole or still on the part you just took out.

  • I heated up a butt connector and stuck it on there to remove mine. It was very easy all I had to do was rotate the carb. Boom.

  • I heard of someone else doing that but because my jet kit came with the tool I forgot about it. Smart.

04 crf250r I am in need of some suspension setup help. I m new to bikes — HONDA CRF Dirt Bikes ONLY

04 crf250r I am in need of some suspension setup help. I'm new to bikes. I'm 150 pounds with all gear on. I ride on a loose dirt track. Gets rough at end of day. Having problems with the rear wanting to kick me over the handle bars. Because of this broken collar bone and 3 ribs has happened. Went over jump kicked me over. I'm looking for help on how to cure this problem. My clicker is 2 past neutral. Do I need to adjust rebound or........ all help is appreciated thank u!! Again I am new to bikes so I might ask questions lol!

  • I needed a heavier spring, my buddy had an 09 250r spring which I think is a 5.2. took us about an hour.

  • Cool yea YouTube is a great tool lol now as far as rebuilding it (internal) what's best route to go? I talked to the original owner and neither front or rear have been rebuilt ever. Would it be best to do a whole rebuild on it? Also was told to change front springs to.

  • I payed a local guy that used to own a shop and would set up at tracks on the weekends. When the number of racers dropped a few years back he closed down but still does side work. I had him install a Racetech gold valve kit ( awesome investment). If you are very mechanically inclined and don't mind buying all the tools and extra seals if you screw up go for it yourself. I didn't have time to mess with it. I took them to another shop to begin with and after 2 shot they still couldn't get it right. The guy said I had some rod loose in one fork. As far as the rear you have to be able to deal with the high pressure nitrogen charge on the reservoir. I wouldn't touch that.

2005 Honda CRF250X,Plated — HONDA CRF Dirt Bikes ONLY

Up for sale (no trades) is Veteran owned a 2005 Honda CRF250X that has a clear title and is tagged for street use.

Only 10 hours (+ or - 30 minutes) run time since complete professional servicing (fluids, filters, etc),new brakes,chain/sprockets,and rear tire. Engine was completely rebuilt (top and bottom end) from the crankshaft up with 34-36 hours run time since . Hours/miles will go up as I ride it (including to work some as well). Bike's previous owner is a professional bike mechanic, who was able just thi sweek to find the receipts for the complete rebuild I mentioned.

Runs strong (would easily outrun the stock 2008 CRF250X that I used to own),and is dependable. Price is pretty firm (it's less than what I have in it),so please don't waste our time with low-ball offers, though I would accept an offer that's pretty close. I'm not in any kind of bind/desperate for cash, and don't need help selling it. I'm thinking about saving to pay cash for a brand new bike,so if it doesn't bring close to what I'm asking,I'll just keep and ride it. Thanks for looking, and have a great day :)

      Update 06/04/17:

      SOLD: 2013 Honda MSX.

Unfortunately the time has come to part with my MSX. It's been amazing fun to own and ride, but due to a longer daily commute, I need to get something a bit bigger.

I’ve met a fantastic group of people because of this great little bike, so it’s with regret that I need to sell her.

I've owned my MSX since first registration in October 2013 and have carried out all servicing myself.

Although the mileage is a little high (32K miles), It has always been regularly serviced, filled with the best quality fully synthetic engine oil, with oil & filter changes at least every 1000 miles. MOT is until end of October 2017.

The weak point of the MSX (the crank) was replaced in June 2016 with a stronger/upgraded Finbro item and a Takegawa 143cc kit was installed at the same time. Approximately 6000 miles have been covered since the engine rebuild. She runs beautifully now.

I really hope somebody can give her a good home. She’ll reward you with many years of fun and laughs. I would much prefer her to go to one of the members here than part exchanging it at my local Honda dealership.

The list of modifications are as follows:

Takegawa 143cc kit (still registered as 125cc).

      Takegawa cam.

Port matched and gas flowed cylinder head.

      Finbro upgraded crank.

Heavy duty cam chain tensioner button, new tensioner rollers and engine seals (installed in 2016 with crank rebuild and 143 kit install).

      Takegawa oil pump.

Kitaco clutch case (with added oil filter and spinner delete).

      Uprated clutch springs.

      Magnetic drain plug.

      DNA air filter.

M4 Exhaust with wideband boss installed (complete with DB killer).

      PowerCommander V (PCV).

      PowerCommander Wideband 2 (WB2).

      Takegawa generator plugs.

Renthal super low down sportsbike bars.

      CNC levers.

      Custom 7” round 60W H4 headlight conversion.

      LED smoked flush mount indicators.

      Integrated smoked LED tail light.

      Modified ComposiMo licence plate mount.

      Pyramid Plastics fender extender (front)

      Modified horn mount.

      Recently installed components:

        • On my '95 VT1100C me and a friend were chasing down some kids on 600cc sport bikes up in the NM mountains and mine really started dancing up and down. It's weird, when your are cornering hard and shifting a lot, due to the bike reacting the opposite of what you are thinking it will do. Hard throttle and bike lifts, off the throttle and it squats. Granted, we were pushing the envelope for any cruiser ;-)

        • Don't really think tbh, that unless you wanna 'race' or drive very sporty that the reduces hp will be of much importance. I mostly wanna cruise smoothly, no need to rush things tbh :P have heard of enough bike accidents

        • You really should get a shaft drive then. Best for just cruising.

Sorry for the terrible video bought this off a buddy of mine two weeks ago — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Sorry for the terrible video, bought this off a buddy of mine two weeks ago(never even rode a bike before) finally got it started today, had to take the carb off(utter pain in the ass) and threw it back on and after 2 hours of troubleshooting finally got it to start and die a few times, this was the second time it actually idled, so adjusted and took it for a spin, and of course killed it, brought it back to the car jumped it again, and went to take off this time killed it instantly, I assumed the battery had some juice and went to start it and heard like a puff, I want to say near my right leg but that could've been a misfire, and zero juice from the starter, headlights and tail light worked though, so I don't think it's the battery, I'm assuming it's the fuse. Side note(don't know if its even relevant) used to I could put it in neutral and push it fine, now it seems to click into gear when it should be in neutral(while turned off)

Keep in mind, I work on VW bugs never motorcycles, so don't hate too much :P

        • Hopefully it's some as small as that. also be careful with jumping from a car it can blow the starter solenoid and there not cheap

        • You can jump from a car, just make sure the car isnt running!

        • Could it still be the battery if the lights and horn still work?

Can someone help with an issue my buddy is having with his bike — HONDA SHADOW RIDERS FORUM

Can someone help with an issue my buddy is having with his bike?

          2002 Honda Shadow 1100 Spirit.

How are the ignition wires ran? Does the left coil run both left plugs or does it run the rear cylinder? We are chasing down an issue with it missing and bogging (already had carbs rebuilt completely). The diagrams that show the ignition system aren't clear whether the left coil goes to the left side and the right coil goes to the right side, or if the left goes to the rear cyl and the right goes to the front cyl.

It's a used bike and we are trying to see if someone put it together wrong previously. It needs a new coil and wire to begin with because one of the coils had a corroded pin that was shorting out one wire.

Before we took everything apart, the bike ran with the right side wires hooked up and left side off, but would not run with the left side on and right side unplugged.

          Thanks.

          %d comments
          • Yes. So only 1 plug on each cylinder was firing at the correct time and once RPM picked up to 2,000+ the other plug firing at the wrong time was causing issues.

          • You'll need to pull the tank for sure and take the plastic wire holder box off too. The coil on the left should have both wires running to the rear cylinder. The coil on the right should have wires running to the front cylinder. This would only be an issue if your bike has been worked on by someone before you. Chances are this bike was taken apart by a previous owner that wasn't paying attention.

          • OK so left is rear, right is front. Cool. Thanks man

          • If rain and splashing water can get to it while riding there should be no problems. If something is so well protected that water cannot get to it under those normal situations and you do get water there, there may be problems. One example would be inside the gas tank! Another would be inside a light fixture.

I am starting to despise my 84 VT700. On a recent ride it would barely run & backfired badly stranding me. So I flushed the gas, changed the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, ran sea foam through it, new battery & did a oil change. With a lil starting fluid she fired up & ran flawlessly. I was having fun for a couple weeks until it stranded me last night doing the exact same thing except it wouldn't even stay running with the starting fluid I had in the saddle bag. I was tempted to just push it in the ditch & leave it but my son realized how disgusted I was & brought it home to me. Even if I fix it I am going to sell it because It has made me walk home twice in a month & I cant stand to look at it anymore

            • My 1100 was running badly once. Sputtering, backfiring, seemed to die a few times and restarted. Rode it to the shop. They said it needed jets/had the wrong jets. I couldn't understand that as I had it for some time and it ran well before. So I let them change the jets (or so they claimed). Came to pick up the bike and was told they had to jump start it 'cause the battery was dead. Rode off and less than 2 miles down the road same problem with poor running. This time it died before I could make it back to the shop. They sent a truck. Put a new battery and it was back to being it's old self again.

            • I already put a brand new battery in and I have a Delran Battery Tender that keeps it at a full charge. My hunch is that its a fuel delivery issue like a clog somewhere but im no mechanic

            • And compression, that's the other thing you need.

Selling my cbr 250r that I've had for about a year. Great beginner bike. I think it was a beginner bike for some of the previous owners as it has signs of being dropped but I have replaced the clutch and brake levers and everything works great. Also has an almost brand new rear tire. Bikes not perfect but runs fine starts every time and gets over 70 mpg. Pretty stock bike with some custom lights. Feel free to message with any questions or picture requests. Looking for $3,000 OBO or trade for something like a crf250l (dual sport or supermoto) or a ford econoline.

Kibble white valves and new springs. New rear tire with 6.5 hours on it. Front tire is like new probably has about 15 hours on it. New rad hoses, oil changed and air filter cleaned every 5 or 6 hours. Has new 14 tooth front sprocket also have a brand new 48 tooth rear that I used for one ride and didn't like so I went back to the 51 tooth that's on it. Rebuild was oem bottom end and 13.5:1 cp piston. Could use a new clutch basket but I put new clutches in it in August. Put an hour meter on it when I rebuilt it, it does need rejetted for the high comp piston other than that the bike runs flawlessly. Could use a new set of plastics rear fender is cracked a little as well as the front where it mounts to the bike. Suspension was done by srs for a 180 rider before I got it. Don't really need to sell but I'm considering upgrading to a fuel injected Honda. NO TRADES. Unless it's a 2010 or newer crf250 lol. I am still riding the bike so the hours will continue to increase. Like I said I'm not dying to sell it just seeing what kind of offers I'll get. Also will add better pics tonight I thought I had a few but I don't.

1985 magna 700. I cleaned and rebuilt my carbs. Almost positive everything is back together proper. It turns over but wont start. Im hoping its just because of the cold weather and me only starting it about 10 times since I bought it(finding the sweet spot in the idle). I first want to check and see if their is fuel going into the carbs ; how do I do that...theres a screw somewhere that drains fuel right? If they have fuel Im going to pull the plugs...anything else? Do you think its just a case of me being completely green and it not being over 45 degrees here yet?

They said to post it back

I did and i even had to pay the £11 postage

Contacted them last week about the refund they said they had done it when they haven't

They then offered me replacement which i had already turned now so they obviously knew they had refund me

I have all the parts ready to start my 450 rebuild, wheel rims fenders and new original exhausts, but I have decided to keep it on the road for the summer before I start.

The only issue I have is that when you are changing up a gear and put the power on, I get what feels like a vibration, it is momentary but is there. Anybody have a suggesting what it could be? It 1974 with 16 k on it. Picture shows bike before I fitted new air filters...

                    • That was my thought, drive chain. Mine lets me know it's time t adjust with little shudders like you say.

                    • I have used royal purple for motorcycles for years here in the USA. In the 70's it was Castrol GTX...And if it was a two strike Castrol R...Sweet smelling heaven! Royal is expensive but my Valk di 89 k on it and the ST over 50 k, and I am worth it!

                    • I guess I am getting old...Too many years of shaft driven bikes. Thank you all for the help, I will let you know this weekend.

I noticed my right bar end weight missing yesterday , not sure if dropped off or was taken , i have spare genuine stepped Honda ones so i went to replace it , on tightening up i noticed it was fowling the throttle grip which is a motr@x heated grip so i had to use 3 small washers as spacers in order to allow throttle spring back , anyone else experienced similar ? I'm not sure how the one i lost was fixed as i never had it removed , i've used small amount of thread lock to hopefully avoid same happening again .

The best all rounder for me (lot dirt and tar commute) is the v rubber ones Daran Paul Martin listed. There other brands of the same pattern but they seem to wear quicker.

TIA

Hoping somone can give me some advice here. I have an 85 v65 magna i just baught a week ago not running. Carbs were gummed up very badly. I took the carbs off the bike cleaned them and installed new needle and seats in each carb. I did not do a carb sync i figured they were already synced from the factory and i did not remove the mixture screws behind the plates. Just a simple cleaning. Bike runs great. I jeed to adjust the idle up a bit itll idle around 600 rms for a minute then die but if i keep her at 1000 she stays running good. The bike seems to have little more to me. Iv only got it to go 85 so far and thats about it. 4th gear wide open throttle i gain speed very slowly. Is tjat how these bikes are? Or am i missing out on power?

                                • well you need to see if your scooter is charging the battery while you are riding. The higher the RPMS the more volts you should be getting to the battery. while parked and the scooter on with the lights if your volts drop low espcially below 12V then that is your issue

                                • I always make sure to turn off all lights whiled parked. Rarely turn my underglow on while moving either. Id have to hook up a volt reader to see while moving. Im sure ill figure it out. Just been hearing alot of locals here having more problems after they got lithium as well.

                                • to me it seems you got too much aftermarket stuff connected to your scooter and your stator cant handle it all and charge the battery. The volt meter will easily tell you that.

                                • The brake guru's worked out SS rotors would not be best for stopping but the up side is they don't rust!

Thx for the add! This is Betty Sue, my second bike I've ever owned! First bike was 85 silverwing our kids were small my wife wanted no part of it period! But the day I bought our 2003 Honda shadow ace deluxe 750 that changed! Wife loves this bike as much as I do...this is a picture that her and my kids had made for me for Father's day years back it now hangs in our new house in my man cave! That was Betty Sue old bedroom! I'm an over the road truck driver so she is only sitting at 17,500 miles! She's got best in class and top 5 in couple local car and bike shows against Harleys! Thinking about turning her into a trike so as we get older and more time we can still keep riding her!!! Again thx!

I took delivery of my bike on Saturday and I'm not gonna lie. After not owning a bike in about thirty years, I'm a little bit timid on the road. Just tooling around the neighborhood for now but it sure feels good!
