    • oh alright because the one on my sx was always turned the opposite way i didnt know if it was on right or wrong

    • john, i have heard inveted forks make the 350x's handle alot better. i've always wanted to give it a try so i figure this would be a good time to try.

Spent some time cleaning up the motor tonight.. Somewhere along the line someone had carved a small arrow in the head... I spent a few minutes trying to figure out why, and I still don't know. It's little things like that, almost make me change my mind about redoing er. So much hidden history..

    • richard, i'm getting ready to tear my 350x apart this spring. going to have the frame and have my budy soda blast it and repaint it. Most likey i'm going to have the frame done glow green, with black plastic, and glow gree seat cover and also redue the hubs glow green. for suspension im going to put inverted forks on the front and 400ex rear shock. It's got bear claw tires on the back and front so i'll leave those. I have a Durablue +3 axle from a 400ex that i've been told will fit, if it dose i'm going to put that on. While reduing it, i'm going to install nerf net on it with black netting. the carb is a 400ex, and while apart i'll be installing a custom stainless steal air box i've been fabricating with my neighbor.

    • Can't wait to see it..

    • Chrome swingarm would be pretty neat, not sure if I'd want to spend the money, as if your going to ride it good chance it's going to take a beating at some point.. even with a skid.. Paint or powder is best bet, or just buy a swinger from john.. I don't like the stock swingers just 2 short if you ask me.. +2 or 4 at least if you really want to ride hard..

    • A citrus based brake clean wont hurt the gaskets or burn your skin, not sure what kind you use...

    • The stuff I buy from the auto store to clean my brakes with.. lol I don't know the name off hand.. I don't leave it on long enough, and it evaporates so quickly I don't see it causing a problem either way.

Greetings all. Just bought a Postie and am getting to know its foibles — Honda CT110 Postie. Bike Forum

Greetings all. Just bought a Postie and am getting to know its foibles. I've always owned reliable (new) bikes and scooters so I am mechanically inept. Desperately wanting to learn tho as the plan is to take the Postie (named Mo) around Australia with three others, kicking off in October.

Two of the three have just completed UK to Mongolia on Chinese scooters and they know how to do roadside repairs and change tyres etc. I have a LOT of catching up to do as I've never even changed the oil :-(

I'm staying in the Southern Highlands (near Marulan NSW) for the next few months and there's some lovely dirt roads around the area for me to practice on.

If anyone lives around the area and wouldn't mind giving me Posties Bike maintenance 101, I'd be grateful.

    Cheers Jax

    • Brian, the stock 350x carb doesnt have a choke... it has whats called an enrichner. the flap that youre thinking is your choke is actually a butterfly that opens as you give it throttle. the "choke lever" as people call it on the 350, all it does is feed more fuel through ports in thd carb to act as a choke

    • Wow didnt know that I had a extra carb that came with my x and when I moved the choke the flap opened wonder what that carb is for. Thanks for the input I was about to look for a new carb. Ill just clean this up and do what everyone has been telling me to do. Thanks a lot

400EX swap complete!!!!!!!!! Thank to Richard Getchell, and all the other guys that gave a knucklehead like me the hints/tips to get it to work. For some reason, it STILL won't idle, when the idle screw was full in it STILL wouldn't touch the cable pulley inside for some reason. Went with the 350X low altitude jet and seemed to work fine. Ended up just taking a bit out of the snorkel tube to accommodate the choke, just used silicon to get the air intake and manifold to fit over the 400 cabs ports combined with larger hose clamps. Like everybody said, it's a "tight fit" and for sure tests patience when putting it all back together.

    • But god, the thought of undoing ALL the work it took to get that carb in there is making me cringe.

    • IDK they're quite a different carb, I looked up a ton of info on the swap and still had to pull it apart an tweak a few things.. Yes, undoing all that work, that is why I did my redneck gasket mod.. lol However that might be stretched by now..

    • Yeah, I was able to get the ports to fit, but the larger carb definitely pushes the airbox back about maybe a 3/4 inch.

    • your best bet bro, is change the oil, clean the carb, fix the chain adjuster, while the chain adjuster is off take the chain off clean it with a bursh to get the dirt and crap off itand soak it in a bucket of WD40. before you put the chain on dry it off and spray it with chain wax. then ride it...lol give it a good clean up. if you bought it with a old plug and broken tensioner most likely the guy you got it from did't do much up keep.

Does anyone here own both the 250R and the 350x what are some of the pros an cons of each and overall which is the better/more desired model to own... Personally I like 4 stroke for the even power band.. 2 stroke for the ease of rebuilding. 4 stroke for the long term reliability. With all that said I have owned 2 strokes but never the 250R. I've been considering getting one for some time now.. I know this question is like apples to oranges, but any help or info regarding the 250R would be great. Thanks!

Only works on 12v Ct110's, and according to them you can tell by two ways.

    1- 110's manufactured after 1990 is 12v, earlier than 1990 is 6v

2- 12v Ct110's have a battery that fits snug in the battery slot, 6v ones have a mini battery and has a harness to hold the battery in the slot

So anyone know about using the 250R shrouds on a 350X. Will they bolt up — Honda 350x

So anyone know about using the 250R shrouds on a 350X?? Will they bolt up?

    • yeah.. Not hard to cut and fab something.. but for the same sake, using the large 350x shrouds would probably work best. I have a set of 85 OEM shrouds, "smaller ones". I don't know if I have a spare set of the 86.. aside from my brand new black ones from Maier. Just don't want to use them for an experiment.

    • you know these machine are set up completely differant, i.e the plastics are really diffferant in shape or size? P.S why did you ask the group if it would fit, when your answer to eveyone one is " yeah.. Not hard to cut and fab something.." it seems a ittle disrespectfut to those trying to help you

    • I responded to a comment that was made by Derek. My original question was would the work or are they different, I don't have a 250R and don't really know much about the tank size or anything specific to them. After it was answered that they wouldn't fit, we ventured into the idea of custom cutting either the 250R or 350x to fit to see what it would look like with Louvers. Not sure how that is Disrespectful, but if you found it to be, I apologize.

    • Matt, Idk what yr your Carb is but I'm running a 2000 400ex Carb on mine. No cable mods, threaded right on. Carb boots are the bitch, some people have more trouble than others but I got mine on. I've had it apart a few times afterwards and always goes back together. Had my Carb off just yesterday to change my pilot jet again... been messing with it to get it just right... the stock 40 pilot in that Carb was to lean, put a 42 in it and it was still way lean so yesterday I jumped to a 48 and its behaving 50% better on cold starts but once the weather gets hot out, I may find its too rich. Its trial and error because the needle is non adjustable and the air screw is fixed. Other than that I love the carb

    • I've painted both sets of rear plastics I have.. However, the one set was pretty much garbage, sun faded an stress cracked.. the other set was brand new.. and I really don't know what I was thinking on that one..

    • I got a 2003-2004 no issues mounting. Heat the carb boot in hot water. Make it more pliable.

I recently installed a #80 jet instead of the normal #72. replace the air filter. it had a few hesitation spots, but i still just can't get it perfect like the 72 was. it doesn't like full throttle at low rpms it almost cuts out, i moved the clip on the needle into every position but still not right. if i put the restrictor back on it is fine at full throttle, but running rich, i was wondering anyones thoughts

    • I use a #85 jet with a K&N pod filter and a pit bike exhaust. It's just a farm bike but it goes like the clappers. I used to have the same setup on my normal bike except with a standard, unrestricted exhaust and from memory it ran fine. I don't think anything is as perfect as the stock setup however. Honda got it spot on there.

I am new here and need some advise. I am gonna be getting my first big girl bike this spring and have decided on a Shadow Aero 750. My question is buy new or used?

    • Used. I would let someone else pay the depreciation

    • The longer a bike sits the worse off it becomes . Bad gas ruins alot of things .The only way I would spend alot on a used bike is if I new the person I was buying it off of

    • I buy old bikes all the time on average 2-4 a year. Even with old gas its easy for someone with a little know how to bring it back to life. Used is the best way to go. You basically loose half the value of a new bike in the first two years so it makes sense to buy used.

i have a problem my bike idles and runs fine but the shifter wont move so i can pick a gear ,would it be the clutch?

    • Possibly, lift up the back wheel and see what it does when in gear and when not in gear.

I did a clutch handle adjustment on a non-postie the other day to get it to shift easier (it was still making contact when fully depressed).

I would have no idea what needs to be done with the clutch in the little red machine. Maybe the spring holding in the contact plates is losing its strength hence it makes contact at idle.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
