If u put the long range tank on, you have to move the ignition

    • That's a clever spot to put it, I personally would have never thought of using that bracket! :)

    • Is it a difficult move? I'm assuming that you just undo the ring around the ignition barrel and pull it out the frame from the other side

    • i have an 83 XR 500 tank on mine so the ignition had to move. Its easy to do just disconnect the barrel from the frame and the M-F connection and lengthen the wires about 5 inches, the back of the barrel even tho its sealed i covered the base with sickaflex just to make sure she was water proof

    • I have drag bars on my bobber and mini apes/tall z bars on my aero (they're hard to describe lol) but like I said before, to each his own

    • It looks nice but bobbers go in and out of style.. in 4 or 5 years this will just be a waste of a good bike and the value will fall thru the floor. This has been a big resurgence of the bobber this year and last.

    • yea since 09 when hd put out that factory bobber iron 883 i see more and more bobbers on the road

If you do, can you tell me what type (most common is mid 80's XR250) as well as the dimensions of the side length x height? I'm wanting to put some decals on mine but need measurements before I spend a hundred bucks on a tank

    • Yeah I've got the XR250 on mine. L=37 and H =25cms.

    • thanks for that. Do you happen to have a pic of how its sits on your bike?

Also are those dimensions include the curves or is that more just the flats?

    • Thanks for the offer Jeff, the discs listed are from China, just not sure if the quality would be any good, wanted to find out if anyone had bought a set that didn't warp after hard use, or go rusty after there first splash of water.

    • I'll post a pic shortly to show you the condition. They are the Chinese ones with black infills.

    • When I do them I take a panel to a paint supplier and get it matched that way

I did a tank once that was matched to the colour but the tint was slightly off.

And when it was put back on it was a slightly different colour.

That will be the biggest problem trying to match.

If your looking to respray it all then simply choose the colour you like

    • Okay how about a how to for us cowards.

    • I saw alot of videos using 2 1/8" hole saw. I opted to go slightly smaller so the saw would fit on the inside of the weld. Easier to drill that way. 1 7/8" is what I used. Using an electric drill go slow with light-moderate pressure. Plenty of lube. Wd-40, krown etc...

    • It's important to start slow. You don't want the drill to catch suddenly and risk it jumping and scratching the chrome finish on the tips of your pipes. Once its drilled thru, grab some pliers and pull out the resinator.Honestly it's a very simple mod. I love the sound and free. I don't regret it at all

    • Of course! The bike only has 17k miles and the adjustments were all tight, which I understand the factory adjustment was.

    • Why couldn't you clean it with lacquer thinner? Leaves no residue behind

    • That's what I was thinking, worst case scenario you take a day off from riding to clean it several times to make sure it's actually clean before you do an oil change

    • I have been running the same FLO filter on my VF750S for almost 2 years now and like it. I wash the strainer with clean kerosene and blow it out with compressed air after. I've serviced it 4 times now without any visible deterioration of the screen. I fitted it due to the suspect quality of filters in this country. Too much home made shit on the market here in brand name boxes. I've got it mated up to a Dean Williams 2 line oil mod adapter and it fits nicely behind the MAC 4 into 1 headers with no clearance issues.

    • both kitsa are asily available on E-bay most of the time, and at resonable prices... NEVER believe anything they tell you at a dealership when you want to customize/personalize your bike. Hi all, on the may day run to hastings today, my storm got hot..very hot. Highest temp was 124 and flashing red, quick look down and the bloody fan aint working ! fuse was blown, but this has happened before. What could be blowing the fuse, any ideas ? will start with the fan itself, and the switch, anybody else had this problem ? When i turned the fan by hand, it was stiff, but loosened up after a few turns. thanks in advance, paul

    • thanks guys, will let you know what i find.

    • Donald's theory is correct but if fan still doesn't work after earthing it is the fan or the wiring in between. If it works it is most likely a faulty temp sender.

    • SORTED. It was a dodgy earth, the one that comes from the connector block on the front of the right hand rad, and connects to the rear of the rad ! not the bast place for an earth mr honda, a good rub with emery and its all go. Tha fan now comes on at 102 degrees.

Hi all having only joined the group recently I have a question about fuel — Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm owners

Hi all, having only joined the group recently I have a question about fuel. I’ve used the local supermarket brand since owning the bike and was wondering if changing to Shell V-power would be a better option. Has anybody any feed back with this? Apologize if this topic has been brought up before my time on here, Current setup, Pipercross filter, TPS set at 600ohms, until I take it off and cut the slits, Quill cans, 19T front sprocket, standard back 41T (bit of a light weight, plenty of torque to pull me off from a standstill) bike runs fine so far but with the normal carb burp now and again! Thanks.

    • I'm with Simon, not sure what the mod is and if it has been done.

    • Throttle position sensor located on the rear carb body. Pop the tank up at the rear, unscrew the two bolts (you will need a security torx) turn it anticlock wise, from factory they're set around 900ohms, emissions control, without moding you'll get it to around 600ohms, I've had a few beers tonight so will back with more info. Have a second mod to do before the end of next week, second tank of Shell V-power + nitro, didn't see + nitro the first time I filled up :-) I'm sold on the marketing ploy. Bike running very well so far, very responsive in all ranges.

    • thanks mate will checj mine out later.

    • Engine is semi-stock, has only a lighteened flywheel, air-box, complete exhaust, programmable ignition unit, velocity stacks, electronic gear shifter, and a completely redesigned wiring harness (projected in function of a only-track use). Some internal parts are worked, balanced and polished. Many parts, like fuel tank, tail, all the fairing, rear set, triplee clamps, are hand-made in my garage or projected by me. The tail has not a alu-frame structure, is made in carbonium and is a portant structure, it need only of 4 bolt to be fixed to the frame. The wheels are Marvic magnesium, extremely light, front forks and the rear shock are ohlins. All of any single part of the bike was completely disassembled, modified and reinstalled, whit bigger or smaller modification. Each the frame is modified, whit a reinforce. I think that doesnt exist a single bolt in the bike that I havnt disassembled, examined and, if possible, modified each only in a little part! I have to finish some work on the bike, like the modified swingarm and some others small works like the realization of the brackets to fix the exhausts to the tail. I have worked in my garage about 3 years on my bike, and I'm very proud about the things that I have made all by myself...

Enjoy the trip whichever routes you take

hope you both have a good time in Scotland
