Im getting ready to service my 84 VT700c for the first time. My question is what is your guys recommended oil? Im nowhere near a honda shop for honda oil, so I need a parts store oil recommendation. I have access to Lucas bike oil, Rotella, Valvoline etc. I already changed the battery, gas, plugs, & air filter. I just need to change oil & filter, fuel filter, & check the coolant & air pressure before riding season.

  • I have been using the rotella

  • Valvoline uses a parifin wax as a filler use shell rotella

  • So just regular rotella diesel engine oil?

  • I ran the t6 but I had some clutch slippage I use just regular shell rotella 15/40

  • Rotella but T6 not the T4.

  • RAN SHELL ROTELLA T6 SYN IN LAST 5 GOLDWING A ST1100 AND NOW IN MY 08 SHADOW AERO NO PROBLEMS CHANGE EVERY 5000 MILES JUST TO MAKE KEEPING TRACK EASY AVAILABLE WALLY WORLD TRACTOR SUPPLY OGTEN ON SALE $20 A GALLON THEY MAKE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT IF YOU CHANGE IT IS MOST IMPORTANT NEVER HAD CLUTCH PROBLEM WITH ROTELLA IN ABOUT 500000 MILES USING IT

  • Mobil one turbo diesel Truck oil.

  • Why not the t4? T6 is full synthetic right? I bought the T4 but I didn't use it yet

  • I just know I was told the T6 was compatible with motorcycles and the wet clutch not sure if T4 is

  • Correct.. use the t6

  • So use that full synthetic oil? I am changing oil on a 84 shadow. I have heard not to use synthetic on the old stuff?

  • I use it in my 2000 not sure why you wouldn't want to use it in older vehicles other than it might burn a little since it could sneak a bit passed rings but that could happen with newer models with high mileage just as easy.

  • Only use oil for motorcycles, if you have a wet clutch, you will ruin your clutch by running non motorcycle oil...

  • BULLSHIT

  • There are plenty of us that use other oil regularly.

In use Mobil 1 synthetic turbo diesel Truck oil ... and know others who use it and have over 75,000 miles on their Shadow Sabres.

  • Anyone use Honda oil ?

  • I would use it if I had access to it. The manual I have for my bike has one rule for oil. Pick & brand & stick to it. Therefore I want to use something thats readily available. The closest honda shop is over a hour away & the internet takes forever & costs a fortune

  • So I can just drain my old oil (probably old Honda oil) & just throw full synthetic in it with no issues? I feel like the bike is 35 years old & runs perfect so mixing synthetic oil in at this point seems odd to me. Of course I really dont understand oil sooo.....

  • I have gone from who knows what when I bought my bike used to Honda synthetic and then to mobile 1 synthetic turbo diesel Truck oil... and it shifts smoother with the mobil1 than it ever did with different dino-oil or the Honda synthetic (which was over $8 per quart)

  • I run Lucus M/C Oil, just use correct weight, it's specifically designed for 'Wet Clutch's', & actually Better grade.Works fine in my '08 Aero.

  • I use castrol motorcycle oil
