Yet another slight set back on Rosie the 84 XR250R RFVC, so as I've posted aside from a worn center cam journal and seized piston in my front brake caliper and standard sized rings on a .025 over piston and worn valves...lol NOT bad, cylinder with pretty fresh bore and all measurements scoped out and piston looked very fresh....
So got new .025 rings and I'll be damned!!! Max ring gap should be .016, well skirt to just before top all .013 with rings on piston and piston in barrel....BUT at very top of cylinder ring gap is .016, the max:(!! I had a crazy feeling as old ring very worn on right side of gap!
I guess the little bit it was ran with wrong rings wore the barrel odd!!
Soooo going to get a standard sleeve and a new standard piston kit!!
Budget not yet blown but getting close:)
But hey for $1200 I'll have a fresh top end with zero hours:) and a good looking bike:)
Hopefully by the time XR's only gets my head back with rebuilt mid cam journal and valve job I'll have the new sleeve and piston kit installed and have gotten that frozen caliper piston out and have the caliper rebuilt:)
So it goes with old f'd up Hondas:) lol but I love it:)
Btw going to try the grease gun trick to bust that frozen caliper piston loose, I'll let y'all know!
