  • here you have the summary

  • The 40 in a 10w-40 simply means that the oil must fall within certain viscosity limits at 100°C. This is a fixed limit and all oils that end in 40 must achieve these limits. Once again the lower the number, the thinner the oil: a 30 oil is thinner than a 40 oil at 100°C etc. Your handbook will specify whether a 30, 40 or 50 etc is required.

  • or even better: "Your handbook will specify whether a 30, 40 or 50 etc is required."

  • Listen you two, 10 hours ago I wrote: "Manual says 10w30"! :p

  • ;)

  • But why is thikness important.........well in our little single cylinder 4 stroke 125cc engines it aint but in a big ol turbo motor pushing out seriuos power its all about oil pressure @ x tempreture, bit like blood pressure, too low or to high blood pressure you will pass out & die........just like a engine. BTW you will be fine with what ever oil you stuck in there

  • Unless your doing some hardcore racing then 5W30, 10W30 or 10W40 semi or full will be fine as long as said oil meets the API/JASO standard for your engine which will be in the handbook

  • Question since using 5w30 bike seems difficult to select neutral ?

  • Mines hard to select neutral and i have read a few others having the same problem, only seems to be when stationary though so i would not put it down to the oil.

  • That's what I thought but was fine before the oil :/ and straight after seems difficult is okay when stationed and engines not running but clutch isn't dragging I've checked maybe it needs adjusting but don't think it would be okay before an oil change then be funny after do you ?
